SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's become the first question when considering a cell phone plan: How's the coverage?In San Diego, AT&T customers may find they have better luck than other carriers, according to a study by PC Mag.Locally, 19 locations were tested around the county — from Chula Vista to La Jolla and out to the College East area — between May 7 and June 1, 2019. Testers ran speed software every two minutes on sets of Samsung Galaxy S10 series phones for about 15 minutes in each location.For San Diego County, AT&T scored the "fastest" title ahead of T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint."In San Diego, AT&T had nearly double the average download speed of the next-fastest network, with excellent reliability," PC Mag writes. "The carrier has been spreading its 5G Evolution LTE improvements up and down the California coastline, and we really saw the positive benefits this year."AT&T's average download speed was recorded at 90.7 Mbps, compared to Sprint's 51.5 Mbps, T-Mobile's 44.2 Mbps, and Verizon's 36.4 Mbps averages. Uploads over 2 Mbps were successful 97% of the time on AT&T's network, 96% on Verizon, 94% on T-Mobile, and 74% on Sprint.Overall, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon were all given a 100% reliability score. But when it came to speed of network, AT&T grabbed a perfect score, followed by T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint."AT&T and Verizon both plan to bring 5G to San Diego this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you're single in San Diego, chances are you're not impressed by the dating field locally.At least according to Apartment List, which ranked 130 cities on their ability to provide singles with the best atmosphere. San Diego is, well, lukewarm according to the study.The city ranked 73 overall, right in the middle of the park and posting an overall score of 48 out of 100 possible points.RELATED: Love hurts: Price of a date in San Diego could cost you, study saysThe study ranked cities on their dating satisfaction, social satisfaction, dating affordability, and percentage of reported singles, using data from Apartment List’s Annual Renter Satisfaction Survey and Census Bureau American Community Survey 2017.When it broke down that way, only about 22% of respondents were satisfied with the dating in San Diego. How women and men feel about dating locally may give us an idea about why the city ranked where it did. About 17% of women and 35% of men were satisfied with dating here.Far more San Diegans, about 58%, were satisfied with their social lives in town. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Many doctors across San Diego County have seen a recent surge in positive COVID-19 cases. Five hundred one new cases were reported Thursday.But, most people don’t require hospitalization and can isolate at home.“We just do video visits with patients and talk to them about their symptoms,” said Dr. Michele Ritter, an infectious disease specialist at UC San Diego Health and an associate professor of medicine.“At the end of April, May, we were getting maybe four or five new referrals a day to be seen, and then it went up to about 40 a day.”Ritter is also the medical director of the COVID-19 clinic. She said many of her patients live with other people.“There are times there are three of four generations of a family living in a house together and sometimes very close quarters, so that’s a challenge,” she explained.If someone in your household has COVID-19 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends they stay in a separate room and use a different bathroom if possible, avoid contact with other members of the household and pets, don’t share personal household items, and wear a cloth face covering when around others“The absolute ideal situation is your own room, your own bathroom. Not everybody has that, we have patients who live in two-bedroom apartments with six other people and a single bathroom.,” said Ritter.While isolation is critical, Ritter said if you must use a shared space, like a bathroom, it’s essential to disinfect after every use. That includes using a shower, toilet, or sink.“When you’re done if you’re able to have something like a Clorox wipe, or a washcloth with some Clorox bleach on it wipe down the surfaces that you’ve used and wash your hands,” she said. “In terms of laundering clothing, it’s probably fine to launder them together if you’re using high temperatures to wash your clothes.”She said to wash all dishes and utensils used by someone with COVID-19 in hot water and soap or run them through a dishwasher.“A lot of patients have their family members bring meals to them and set it outside their door so they can eat,” she said.Another challenge is parents who test positive for COVID-19 and have mild symptoms, but still, have to take care of their kids.“I find that most parents do well wearing a mask; the kids get used to it,” she said. “You can still be around your kids; just do the best you can.”Ritter said many of her patients have been able to keep the virus from spreading to their loved ones at home by following simple steps.“Wearing masks, washing hands, cleaning frequently touched surfaces is the best you can do,” she said. “We don’t always have perfect situations, so we do the best we can with what we have.” 2720
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In just a few weeks, voters will decide the fate of the San Diego Chargers' former home, now known as SDCCU Stadium.In a recent 10News/Union-Tribune poll, Measure G, known as SDSU West, is the clear front-runner.With the clock winding down, backers of both Soccer City and SDSU West are blanketing the airwaves in hopes of winning over voters.10News analyzed two advertisements currently airing on our station and put their messages to the test, separating fact from fiction.The first ad we looked at deals with Measure E, better known as Soccer City. The ad features soccer star Landon Donovan asking two people if they want to see the future. After showing one of them a video of the design planned for the location, one of the people asks Donovan how much it will cost for what he saw. Donovan says, "It won't cost you a dime."10News analyzed that statement and found it to be in a grey area.According to a San Diego City Attorney analysis, a private developer would normally pay the city for staff time spent processing its development. It’s unclear whether any city staff time will be reimbursed.Also, the City Attorney analysis noted the initiative does not establish the actual amount of rent the city would be paid for a 99-year lease of the property.The ad goes on to claim taxpayers get the same stadium that's currently there for the next ten years and it's going to cost six million dollars a year. Team 10 can’t verify timing but according to the City Attorney analysis, Measure G provides for the sale of approximately 132 acres.The measure doesn't talk about time frames and does not guarantee that the property would be sold or that any specific development would be built.Team 10 also read through the City of San Diego Office of the Independent Budget about stadium costs. The report says the stadium historically operated at a deficit.Officials with Soccer City disagreed with some points of our analysis saying the initiative pays fair market value. They also pointed to provisions in the ballot language saying it shows city costs will be covered.Team 10 also took a look at a Measure G ad starring former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders.The ad starts with Sanders saying “Voters have a big decision in November. The choice is clear, SDSU West, Measure G on the ballot is a once in a lifetime chance to grow the university to meet the needs of future students.”The ad says Measure G will create a western campus for SDSU with a research center, a beautiful public park along the restored San Diego river, affordable housing and a home for SDSU football and soccer.A 10News analysis found those statements to also be in a grey area.All of that could happen, but the city attorney's analysis says voter approval of this measure does not guarantee that the property would be sold or that any specific development would be built. It goes on to say if the property is sold to SDSU, the Board of Trustees of the California State University will determine the use of the property in its sole discretion - through a Campus Master Plan revision process. A Campus Master Plan revision does not require City approval.The review also notes the initiative does not address who would plan, build and maintain the river park.An official with Measure G sent 10News a statement saying: 3334
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Kristin Elliott is CEO of Precision Engineering in Vista, a company that creates water quality sensors for oceans and lakes, "we sell these to universities around the world, work with Scripps Institution of Oceanography," Elliott described.Her work is her passion but so is her team, so when the pandemic hit she said it was her goal not to layoff any employees, taking a pay cut so her team could stay paid."We wanted to save our team through this," she said. Then, there was the announcement kids would be returning to school online."We have this space that we're not gonna be utilizing because no one's having in-person conferences, we're all over zoom these days," turning the room into a classroom. "It's large enough to fit 3 or 4 kids and that's exactly the number of kids we have with our employees. We're going to have a little reading area where kids can switch places to relax and reset. All the things you can normally find in a classroom, a bookshelf with all the interests they might have." Elliott even went to great lengths, hiring an accredited teacher's assistance to help."It's definitely a relief. I know they were just thinking about homeschooling and working, trying to manage that. There's so many emotions involved and so much anxiety and stress, and my goal was to reduce that for our employees."Elliott has followed all CDC protocols and guidelines for her 15 employees working in office, and she'll do the same when their kids come fall."We're still getting the room set up because we want to ensure social distancing between the children and the teacher.
