VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Did you know Vista was once the Strawberry Capital of the World? The North San Diego County city invites you to celebrate its history this Sunday at the annual Vista Strawberry Festival. In the 1960s and 1970s, strawberries from Vista were shipped around the world. The crates were so popular, strawberries in the Netherlands became known as “vistas”, according to the festival’s website. The community celebration, to be held May 26, brings events including a run, Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake pageant, and contests for pie eating and beer stein-holding. Visitors can also enjoy bands, a wine and beer garden, vendors, and carnival rides. The festival runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Main Street and Hanes Place in downtown Vista. (KGTV) - A six-year-old Vista boy said he was approached by an unknown man in a car Monday night who asked him if he wanted pizza.Erika Bristow said her son was playing on their driveway when the man drove up and tried to get the boy’s attention.“He definitely realized immediately it wasn’t a safe situation,” Bristow said of her son, who ran inside to tell them about it.Her son has special needs and is normally very friendly, according to Bristow. So over the past year, she and her husband have been reinforcing the “stranger danger” lesson. Earlier this week they said the topic was even addressed during their son’s karate class.After his son told them about what happened, Craig Bristow said he ran out to the driveway to look for the car. He said he saw it up the street parked behind some trees before the driver sped back down the road.He said he caught a look at the car and the driver but was too distracted to take down the license plate.“All those thoughts are coming through your mind. It’s like a parent's worst nightmare,” he said.They called the sheriff’s Ddepartment, which sent out patrols, but they could not locate the car. The Bristows described the vehicle as a new, white Honda Civic hatchback with roof racks and a sunroof.The family said they did not get any pictures of the car and so far have not heard from any of their neighbors if the car was captured on surveillance cameras.Erika Bristow said the incident has shattered her sense of safety on their winding, quiet street in Vista.“One hour I’ll just cry. Virgin Galactic is preparing to land among the stars.On Wednesday, Virgin Galactic said they were working on its final preparations at its base in New Mexico as the VSS Unity is scheduled to launch into space from Spaceport America sometime in the fall.The company said the ship would be crewed by two pilots and several research payloads in the cabin.Virgin Galactic says its top priority is safety, so they want to make sure the pilots are prepared for the task at hand.To do just that, they will be using VMS Eve as an in-flight simulator. (CNS) - A suspected unlicensed and intoxicated driver who allegedly struck and killed a Fallbrook woman while she was walking with her husband, then fled the scene and sold the involved vehicle, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that include gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.Pascual Cristobal Pascual, 34, of Fallbrook, is accused in the Dec. 10 death of 60-year-old Symone Conley, who was struck by a pickup truck that veered out of a traffic lane on Gird Road near Laketree Drive and jumped a curb, according to the California Highway Patrol.Conley died at the scene.Following the deadly impact, the motorist pulled over and remained in the area for a short time before driving off, the CHP reported.Deputy District Attorney David Uyar said Pascual purchased alcohol about 15 minutes prior to the deadly crash and purchased more alcohol during the weekend following the crash.Pascual was arrested three days after Conley's death, but not before he allegedly sold the vehicle involved in the crash."Not only has he demonstrated his willingness to flee and evade justice, but also to attempt to destroy evidence in the process," Uyar said.Investigators identified Pascual as the alleged hit-and-run driver based on physical evidence at the scene of the traffic fatality, statements from the victim's husband and "numerous calls and leads," CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe said.At his arraignment, San Diego Superior Court Judge Amalia L.
