SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Frank Zamarron, 26, credits his Apple Watch for saving his life.“No warning signs, no pain no nothing,” Zamarron.  “All to know is that my Apple Watch started going off.”It was a Monday night in March, and his watch was alerting him something was wrong.“My heart-rate is elevated, and I'm just sitting at home watching TV relaxing from a long day at work,” he said. “After the fourth alert, I was like okay, something is not right. Time for me to a go to the hospital.”It was a decision that saved his life. It turns out, Zamarron contracted cellulitis, a skin infection, on his right leg. Soon after doctors started treating him, his leg began to blister.“Apparently your body is reacting to the infection trying to fight it off, doing everything it can, raising your heart rate,” Zamarron said. “They said it could have been fatal in a certain situation. Depending on how I treated it. Typically you would take pain pills or something and call it a day.”Zamarron spent seven days in the hospital.Doctors told him his weight might have contributed to the infection. Zamarron is now focused on staying active and getting healthier. 1223

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Famed stand-up comedian Jo Koy is being recognized by the City of San Diego in honor of Filipino American History Month.On Friday, Oct. 16, District 6 City Councilman Chris Cate will proclaim the day “Jo Koy Day” in San Diego. The ceremony, which will take place in Mira Mesa on Friday afternoon, will be emceed by ABC 10News reporter Melissa Mecija.The 49-year-old Jo Koy, whose real name is Joseph Herbert, has established himself as one of the most popular comedians in the world in recent years, with several Netflix specials, sold-out comedy tours, and other media endeavors under his belt.In a statement, Cate, a second-generation Filipino-American, said: “Jo Koy is iconic and a trailblazer. His homage to the Philippines has reached the lives of millions of people worldwide. Filipino cuisine, culture, and arts are flourishing in District 6, and I am excited to celebrate Jo Koy and recognize his accomplishments.”According to Cate’s office, 1 in every 3 District 6 residents is of Asian-American descent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family members are offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting death of Victor Vega.On May 28, 2016, San Diego Police officers responding to a shooting in the 8300 block of Brookhaven Road in the Skyline area found Vega lying on the street with gunshot wounds. Officers and medics began life-saving measures, but Vega died at the scene. 398

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time Tuesday, 12-year-old Kiera Latulippe faced the man who killed her entire family in a drunk driving crash. The Valley Center girl was in the car with her family headed to the Austin, Texas, airport after vacation when the drunk driver hit their car head-on. Her father, Scott; mother, Nancy, and 14-year-old brother, Jackson, all died. Kiera was the only one to survive. On Friday, Guy Brasted was sentenced to 18 years in prison. After the sentencing, Kiera and her uncle and legal guardian, Mark Latulippe, took the stand with an emotional message for Brasted. "It made me miss out on so much, like daddy daughter dances," Kiera said, listing the things she can't do now that her family has been ripped away from her. RELATED: Valley Center remembers family killed in DUI crashOn Tuesday, after the pair returned from the sentencing in Texas, Latulippe told 10News, "it was extremely emotional for her having to look at this again and place herself in that car again." Brasted had a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit at the time of the crash."My brother, Jackson, and I had something I can never have with someone else, and it kills me to know I will never have that feeling with anyone else. Everyday I think about him," Kiera said.Since the accident happened two years ago, Latulippe has taken his niece into his own care."I can't replace, I'm a fill-in parent for someone who has tragically had everything robbed from her in one moment," Latulippe says.Latulippe is a CHP officer for California Highway Patrol. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of men in high heels strutted through downtown San Diego on Saturday morning to support victims of domestic violence.The 11th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event started with the mile walk and ended with a family festival featuring face painting, live music and more.“It is a lighthearted way to bring awareness to domestic violence,” said Heather Frinlay, the Chief Operating Officer of the YWCA of San Diego County. The morning of family fun raised money for programs that provide victims of domestic violence resources like housing, counseling, and legal aid.“This is not a private issue; this is a community issue,” said Frinlay. “We still have one in four women, and now one in seven men experiencing domestic violence in their lifetimes.”San Diego County reported more than 17,000 incidents of domestic violence in 2017. 871
