DETROIT - The bodies of 11 infants were found in the ceiling of a former funeral home on Detroit's east side Friday evening, according to Detroit Police. Police say the bodies were found in a box and in a small casket. Cadaver dogs were on scene, and in all police found the 11 bodies of infants and stillborns. The Cantrell Funeral Home was shut down earlier this year due to several violations and "deplorable, unsanitary conditions." Police say a tip through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) sparked the investigation. LARA reported Cantrell Funeral Home had 60 days to either assign its existing prepaid contracts to another person registered under the Prepaid Act and notify the Department and contract buyers of the assignment within 30 days of the assignment.The funeral home's other option was to cancel their current contracts and issue refunds to each contract buyer, providing copies of refund checks and correspondence to each contract buyer to the Department within 90 days, unless the Department modifies, vacates, or extends the terms of the Order.A spokesperson from LARA has released this statement regarding their investigation: 1228

DEL MAR (KGTV) — For the first time, researchers set up receivers along San Diego coast with the ability to record when sharks are near. California State University Long Beach spent Wednesday working with Del Mar lifeguards as they dropped three receivers along the coast and tried tagging sharks nearby. Unfortunately, no sharks were tagged.Chris Lowe, with Shark Lab, tells 10News, “we just got money from the state to expand it throughout all of California.” They have receivers from Avila to the Mexico border but none located between Oceanside and La Jolla."This is a big gap for us,” Lowe says.Each receiver collects data from any tagged shark within 500 yards of the device. The receiver logs the time, date and is able to identify the exact shark based on the scanned tag. For a decade, CSU Long Beach has been studying the patterns of sharks and working to collect enough data to eventually predict where sharks will be at certain times of the year. 967

DENVER — The City of Denver has dealt with at least 289 cases of public urination or defecation so far in 2018.“You’ll come outside in the morning and someone will have just used the restroom all over the wall,” Denver resident Jake Rose said.Rose, who lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of the city, says he sees the issue when he walks into his alley to get to his garage.“It’s pretty offensive. I’d rather not see it,” he said.KMGH contacted several residents in the Capitol Hill neighborhood through the Nextdoor app to get their thoughts.“This is a HUGE issue in the area,” one resident said. “This problem has increased dramatically.” Another added that there was “just poop everywhere.”Denver police keep track of how many citations they give out for certain municipal code violations. From January to November, that number came in at 289 for public urination or defecation. A police spokesperson added that usually officers give warnings, sometimes multiple, before issuing a citation.There were another 136 complaints through 311 for human waste in the public right-of-way.“Any waste in the public right of way is essentially a public health issue because that waste can go into our waterways, people can be exposed to it, and we don’t want that,”said Jeremy Garland of the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.Garland says multiple city departments work together to try to address the issue. Police issue citations, DPHE deals with cleanup through 311 and the Department of Public Works can be called for larger cleanups.“We don’t want this happening in our streets. "So it's a little scary," she adds, seeing the rows of empty shelves at the store on West Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa.The sign on the store announces that there are just 11 days until the store is closed for good. Rubiani registered with Babies R Us for her first daughter, but now, expecting a second child soon, she doesn't yet know where she'll turn."I was going to do Babies R Us but then they close," Rubiani said. With thousands of LED lights and tons of spooky decorations, it has become an attraction!“It means more to people this year than in the past because it is a sign of normalcy,” Mark said.He puts up the lights and decorations himself. He’s in real estate and construction and rents equipment. Mark says it takes 80 hours to decorate about ,000 worth of props and lights.Every year, the Vane Sile couple would dress up and pass out full-size candy bars to 1,400 trick-or-treaters.
