BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has highlighted a nationwide inspection of enforcement of the country's Law on Energy-saving to build a resource-efficient and environment-friendly society.Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks on Tuesday in an instruction to the committee's inspection.Energy-saving was a pressing and tough issue that involved all industries and occupations, and the inspection should push Chinese companies and corporations to reduce their energy consumption in production and operation, Wu said.The inspection would also promote implementation on the NPC Standing Committee's resolution to deal with climate change and other related Chinese laws and regulations, Wu said.

TIANJIN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China has become Volvo's third largest market, with more of its car models to go on sale in the world's largest auto market this year, Chief Executive Office (CEO) of Volvo Cars China said in Tianjin.Dr. Alexander Klose, CEO of Volvo Cars China, told Xinhua at the Ninth Tianjin International Automobile Trade Show, being held from Friday to Wednesday.Klose said Volvo Cars had entered a new era of fast development, adding that its sales in China roared in 2010.As of the end of September, Volvo's global sales volume was up 12.5 percent year on year, compared with 52 percent year-on-year rise in China, he said.Volvo also aggressively expanded its dealer network to 98 outlets in 81 Chinese cities this year.Two new Volvo sales centers opened in Beijing within merely one week in early October, about two months after east China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. acquired the Swedish brand from the U.S. auto giant Ford for 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in early August.Dr. Klose said he was confident of seeing tremendous growth in China's auto market in the next five years."As the Chinese government has increased the tax rate for large displacement cars already, we now have a lot of cars below three liters, and I think we'll stick to that strategy, as you can see now the XC60 which was introduced today is just two liters," he said."As the technology advances, we'll probably even see 1.6 liter engines or 1.5 liter engines in the future," he added.Volvo Cars is not the only automaker hoping to take advantage of China's rapidly growing auto market.Bentley, the famous British luxury carmaker, will open a new sales center in China at Tianjin next Thursday, which is the 11th one in China, according to a press release by Shanghai-based Zenith Integrated Communications Corp. HEFEI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's top 500 enterprises reported smaller revenue gaps with their U.S. counterparts, while outperforming their worldwide competitors in profitability amid the nation's rapid economic recovery, an industrial ranking report showed Saturday.China's top 500 enterprises chalked up 4.05 trillion U.S. dollars in operating revenues last year, equivalent to about 18 percent of the operating revenue total created by the world's top 500 companies in the same year, and the ratio was 2.62 percentage points lower than the figure recorded for the year earlier, according to a report released Saturday in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, by the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) and China Enterprise Directors Association.The average profit margin of China's top 500 enterprises was 5.44 percent in 2009, compared with 4.16 percent for the world's top 500 companies.Further, the net profits of the Chinese heavyweights grew by more than 20 percent last year, faster than the 17 percent for the world's top 500. It was the second consecutive year that Chinese enterprises outshone theirforeign counterparts in annual profits.Miao Rong, researcher with CEC, said despite the progress, China's top 500 enterprises obviously suffered from the impact of the global financial crisis as they reported slower growth in new employment and business revenues.However, unlike the world's top 500 companies, most of which are service and high tech giants, a lion's share of China's top 500 businesses are traditional industrial enterprises in the fields of energy development, telecommunications and power generation, Miao noted."It is a tough job, in the short-term, to make Chinese corporations catch up with their foreign counterparts in terms of 'soft power' , such as the capability of resource integration, management expertise, brand building and intellectual property protection," he added.Sinopec, Asia's leading refinery, topped the top 500 revenue list for the fifth consecutive year with 1.39 trillion yuan (about 204.41 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009. It was followed by the State Grid and PetroChina.Also, private businesses were growing rapidly as five companies reported operating revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan. Huawei Technology Co Ltd, a telecommunication equipment producer, recently leaped into the world's top 500 enterprises club.
