(KGTV) -- A woman died early Sunday morning after her vehicle rolled over on a North County road before being struck by several other drivers suspected of driving under the influence.According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of SR-78 near Mar Vista Drive.CHP says the 33-year-old woman from Oceanside was driving her Toyota Carolla when she veered off the road onto a dirt shoulder. The 33-year-old driver of the Corolla died at the scene, CHP said, and the 54-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. According to officers, after the second crash, a 38-year-old man also from San Marcos crashed into both of the vehicles previously involved in the crash. The driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital.The drivers of the vehicles involved in the second and third crashes are both suspected of driving under the influence.The District Attorney’s office also responded to the scene after being requested by officers to aid in the investigation.SR-78 west is currently closed. Two U.S. senators have filed an amendment to legislation that would replace Columbus Day with Juneteenth Day as a federal holiday.“In response to a bipartisan effort to give federal workers another day of paid leave by designating Juneteenth a federal holiday, we have offered a counterproposal that does not put us further in debt,” said Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) in a press release. “We support celebrating emancipation with a federal holiday, but believe we should eliminate a current holiday in exchange. We chose Columbus Day as a holiday that is lightly celebrated, and least disruptive to Americans’ schedules.”U.S. Senator John Cornyn announced mid-June that he was introducing a bipartisan bill that would make Juneteenth a federal holiday.“Juneteenth is a day in our history that redefined the meaning of freedom and equality in America,” said Senator James Lankford (R-OK). “Throughout our history, we have strived to become a more perfect union and Juneteenth was a huge step in attaining that goal. TUCSON, Arizona — A Tucson, Arizona man who had been in an altercation fired a gun at a police officers, hitting one of the officer's belt. The belt prevented a bullet from entering his body.That man, 51-year-old Roy King, was in a bar with his wife and family when an argument started. King's stepson, who was at the bar, called 9-1-1.During the argument in the bar, King allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened two people. King then headed to his home.Tucson police officers went to the home in response to the 9-1-1 call and found King's vehicle in the driveway. When the officers approached the car, King started to yell at them from the backyard. He still had the handgun.During the confrontation between King and two officers, gunfire was exchanged. One of the rounds fired by King hit an officer's duty belt. The belt stopped the bullet from injuring the officer.King then went inside his home and called 9-1-1. Additional TPD officers went to the home and were able to talk King into coming outside. He was not injured and was taken into custody.Roy King was booked into Pima County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One for the incident at the bar, and one for the incident at the home.The incident is still under investigation. 1310

TRINITY, Fla. — Family and friends of a man who recently suffered a fractured skull are speaking out about delays in care from a Florida hospital they believe made his condition worse.On what was supposed to be a fun night playing softball, Donnie Smith's life changed forever.Smith had just thrown a pitch, when a line drive hit him in the head.“Donnie went immediately to the ground,” said teammate Bryan Williams. “Blood was coming out of his nose. You could already see the swelling.”At that point, they knew it was bad.  Another teammate took him to the nearest emergency room, which was at Medical Center of Trinity, about two miles south of the ballpark.  Donnie got to Trinity at 7:46 p.m. local time“You figure a hospital is a hospital. It's there to take care of emergencies,” said teammate Jimmy Sigmone.But not all emergency rooms can handle all emergencies, as Smith's sister Patti Dermer was about to learn.By the time she arrived, a CT scan showed his injury was potentially life-threatening.By 8:20 p.m., they knew he had a fractured skull and a brain bleed.But doctors at Trinity couldn't perform emergency surgery to relieve the pressure.At 9:16 p.m., a doctor signed a transfer order, and a surgical team was placed on stand-by 13 miles away at the Bayonet Point Trauma Center.“There were ambulances sitting outside the door, and they wouldn't put him in it,” said Deremer.As seconds and minutes ticked by, Smith's condition worsened.“He's going gray, sweating profusely, chills everywhere,” Deremer said.She said she was alone with him in an ER Bay for most of the time they were waiting.He was given an ice pack to hold on his head.  By 10 o'clock, Donnie’s heart rate dropped to under 40 beats a minute.“He wound up throwing up blood all over the room. Blood started gushing out of his nose,” Dermer said.Records indicate the ER staff had called for a helicopter, but it couldn't fly due to weather conditions. “It was the longest night of my life,” Deremer said. “Literally, I was out there screaming at people.”By 10:20 p.m., Donnie’s blood pressure spiked and his pulse was dropping.The ER team rushed him to another room and put him to sleep.  Records show that finally at 10:21 p.m., the first call from Trinity was made to Pasco County EMS for an ambulance.It was two-and-a-half hours after Donnie first arrived at Trinity and more than an hour after a doctor signed the transfer order.Donnie finally got to Bayonet Point at 11:25 p.m., four hours after the softball fractured his skull.Friends wish they'd called 911 from the ball field, so paramedics would have taken him where he needed to go the first time.“You can point a million fingers. Uber has agreed to pay 56 current and former employees about ,900 each, or .9 million, to settle their claims of gender discrimination, harassment and hostile work environment.On Monday, lawyers for the plaintiffs filed paperwork in a Northern California district court that outlined how a million settlement announced in April would be divvied up. In addition to the .9 million, another .1 million will be divided among more than 480 workers, including the 56 who are receiving the other payouts.The lawsuit was filed against Uber in October 2017 by three Latina engineers who alleged they were paid less than their white or Asian male colleagues. The women claimed Uber used a discriminatory "stack ranking" system, alleging "female employees and employees of color are systematically undervalued ... because [they] receive, on average, lower rankings despite equal or better performance."Those stack rankings were then used, in part, to determine promotions, according to the lawsuit. Uber also set employee pay based on their past compensation, which inherently disadvantages women.Fifty-six workers came forward to describe their experiences with discrimination and harassment at Uber. They are a subset of a broader class that includes about 480 women and underrepresented minorities who worked in certain software engineering jobs.
