BEIJING, June 3 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday rejected certain parties' misinterpretations of international law on territorial disputes in the South China Sea, saying its activities in the region were "legitimate and reasonable."
The BRICS countries are facing some challenges in their respective development, but they still enjoy huge development potentials and the upward trend won't change, Xi told the 7th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit in the southwestern Russian city of Ufa.

Liu said China's policy for the South China Sea is clear and consistent. We remain committed to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea and resolving disputes through negotiation and consultation. We support strengthening mechanisms and rules governing the South China Sea issue, including the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and the formulation of the COC, as effective means to manage disputes. And we consistently stand for joint development and maritime cooperation as win-win arrangements pending the final resolution of the issue.
High on the agenda at the summit will be the AU Commission's Agenda 2063, the political crisis in Burundi, proposals for the continent's free trade area, and mechanisms to find new sources of funding for the AU operations.
