Caregivers already deal with a lot of stress and it's rising.The Caregiver Action Network has been seeing more calls coming into its free help desk recently. It says one out of every three has something to do with a challenge raised by the pandemic.“By the end of the call, I actually will hear them breathing like a deep breath of like sigh of relief almost and that they're actually feeling better at the end of the call, having been able to express some of their thoughts, some of their worries,” said Jennifer Piscitello, caregiving expert with the Caregiver Help Desk.Piscitello says people calling in are expressing a lot of pandemic fatigue. They're overwhelmed, because they don't have the same resources or outlets they had previously.The pandemic may also be keeping loved ones at home longer.“Aging in place has gone from being a desire, a wish, to almost a mandate or something that really has to happen because families are just afraid to have their elderly loved ones put in a nursing home,” said John Schall, CEO of the Caregiver Action Network.Schall says we need more training and financial support for the caregivers in this situation.The expansion of telehealth has been helpful, but one challenge is when caregivers can't be present when that virtual visit is happening, like they would be with an in-person doctor's visit.Experts at the help desk are making sure caregivers focus on their self-care now more than ever. Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen has announced a data breach that could affect customers who ate at the restaurant late last year or early this year.The restaurant said on Aug. 16 Cheddar's learned that between Nov. 3, 2017 and Jan. 2, 2018 an unauthorized person or persons gained access to payment card information in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.The affected information involved payment card information and payment card numbers.Information from about 567,000 payment card numbers may have been exposed through affected restaurants, according to Reuters.More information can be found here.  849

CAMPO, Calif. — Campo Elementary School students were forced off a school bus after a man stormed onto the bus armed with two knives.Matthew Barker, 37, of Campo, was arrested by the San Diego Sheriff's Department after he boarded the bus packed with students at an apartment complex on Friday around 8:30 a.m., according to Mountain Empire Unified School District superintendent Kathy Granger.Officials said Barker entered the bus and was immediately told by the driver to leave. Barker ignored the driver and continued up the stairs and toward students before the driver got in front of him.As Barker tried to push past the driver, a grandmother of one of the students saw what was happening and got onto the bus to help the driver, officials said. That's when Barker reportedly pulled out a knife and swung at the driver.As the driver and grandmother struggled with Barker, an older student ushered students to the back exit of the school bus and called to nearby parents for help. The students were able to exit out of the bus unharmed.Another good Samaritan then got on the bus, at which point Barker turned the knife on himself, according to the Sheriff's Department. The Samaritan pried the knife away from Barker and pulled him off the bus as deputies arrived.Barker has been charged with felony assault. Authorities are investigating the incident and believes drugs were a factor in the attack.The bus driver and Samaritans were not injured."We take safety very seriously and want to assure you our buses remain a safe form of transportation for getting children to and from school," Granger said in a statement. 1669

CARLSBAD (KGTV) -- A slope in Carlsbad is moving, affecting a senior community on top of it. The question of who is responsible for paying to fix it has the City of Carlsbad battling with those who live in Camino Hills.“It’s been a tremendously stressful experience for everyone,” said Mike Perry, who has lived in Camino Hills since 2001. Joe Matthews has called the Camino Hills community his home for about 19 years. “We have lunch out here, sometimes dinner,” Matthews said, as he showed Team 10 the front patio area where he relaxes with his wife. “The grandkids come visit.”“It’s a really wonderful community,” Mathews added. What he did not know was something was going on beneath the surface. “It came as a real surprise,” Matthews said. According to court documents filed by the Camino Hills Homeowners Association in 2018, the City of Carlsbad noticed damage to the pavement and sidewalk right by Camino Hills Drive back in 2007. In January 2009, a geotechnical firm placed devices in the slope to track the movement. There was more slope movement detected during the El Ni?o rainstorms from 2016 and 2017.To fix the issue, it could cost anywhere from 0,000 to about million, according to Elizabeth French. French represents the Camino Hills Homeowners Association. She said when this community was being built, the City of Carlsbad entered an agreement with the developer of Camino Hills. In the indemnity agreement, French said it required the developer to fix any problems for up to 10 years after the community was built. Camino Hills was built in the mid-1980s and the developer is now out of business. French said the city is now asking the residents of Camino Hills to foot the bill.“There’s nothing in this association’s government documents alerting any of the prospective purchasers that there’s this enormous liability out there, that they could be tasked with addressing down the road and that kind of notice is required in the law,” French said.Joanne Stout’s modular home is right by Camino Hills Drive. “This is it. This is where I’m going to be until they carry me out of here,” Stout said.
