SAN YSIDRO, Calif. SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of San Diego may want to learn a lesson from Santa Monica when it comes to rental scooters.Santa Monica just created new parking spaces for the electric scooters and e-bikes called Shared Mobility Drop Zones. After numerous complaints about riders leaving the scooters on sidewalks, the city decided to take action.San Diego has several bike and scooter companies providing rentals, including Bird and Lime.When asked about the possibility of creating similar parking spaces locally, a spokesman for Mayor Kevin Faulconer said, "The City is looking at a variety of ways to encourage the use of alternative modes of transportation, while keeping the public right of way clean and safe. As an example, we are in the process of installing more than 100 bicycle racks in different parts of the City. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Some local stores are having a hard time keeping up with the demand from senior shoppers who are showing up for the special early morning hours amid concerns over COVID-19. Over the phone, a Costco employee in Santee told 10News that more than 1,500 seniors showed up on Tuesday and the store hasn't been that busy since Christmas or Thanksgiving. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are warning Americans traveling to Tijuana about people posing as police officers reportedly getting aggressive with drivers waiting to cross the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Photos from Tijuana Police show officers near the port putting a man in handcuffs. Authorities in Mexico say he’s one of 35 people arrested Sunday for being aggressive to drivers waiting to get back into the United States. The concern was raised this week as travelers are expected to head south for the holiday weekend. Marco Sotomayor, the Secretary of Public Safety in Tijuana told the San Diego Union Tribune that the city is seeing cases that are more violent and more consistent. Sotomayor goes on to say that criminals sometimes mask themselves as police officers wearing fake badges on hats and jackets, demanding money from drivers stuck in lines. "I think you very much stick out if you've never been to Mexico, and you don't know where you're going and you don't know what roads to take, I think that does make you a very easy target,” said Amanda Matti with Daytripper Tours. She says the company has been safely traveling into Mexico for 30 years. Because they travel in large groups via buses and have contacts across the border, Matti says their tour service never runs into these type of issues. "Our driver is usually local, experienced in Mexico, our tour managers are experienced, so I think they know not to target us."Matti says if you plan on going this weekend and don’t have experience, don’t go alone. SANTEE, Calif. (CNS) - Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law a bill authored by Sen. Brian Jones, R-Santee, which extends immunity from liability for local governments that operate skate parks, the lawmaker announced Tuesday.Senate Bill 1003 follows a similar bill Jones wrote in 2015 while he was a member of the Assembly that provided a four-year immunity window for municipally operated skate parks. SB 1003 makes that immunity permanent."Senate Bill 1003 grants much-needed immunity from liability for communities that operate skate parks," Jones said. "Local skateboarders and sport riders get a safer place than the streets to carve, do McTwists or ollies, and taxpayers are not going to be liable for the occasional mishap that is inherent to all active sports."SB 1003 was sponsored by the County of San Diego, and as an urgency measure, goes into effect immediately.The bill was co-authored by Sens.
