SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Marine killed in a motorcycle crash on I-15 Friday has been identified as 21-year-old Logan Parkhurst.The crash happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Miramar Way just after 6:30 a.m.According to the California Highway Patrol, Parkhurst hit the back of a Toyota while attempting to exit onto Miramar Way, causing him to be ejected. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man building his travel brand on Instagram said hackers tried to take it all away.Claudio Copiano Jr. runs the account @globalvagabonds. He posts pictures from his travels all around the world and advises people on how to travel on a budget. He’s traveled around the United States and about 30 other countries so far. Copiano has received partnerships with two countries to post about his travels. Eventually, he hopes to build it into a full-time income.“I want to show everybody what I do,” he said. Recently, Copiano received a notification from Instagram saying his email had been changed. “I clicked on ‘forgot my password,’ even though I know my password,” Copiano said.He still could not log in and started to panic. Then, he started to receive emails from someone who said he had hacked the account. The hacker demanded 0 in Bitcoin for the return of the account. Copiano said he sent dozens of emails to Instagram with no luck. “I got an email the first time from them saying that my account had been deleted and there was nothing that they could do,” Copiano said.Fortunately, he was able to figure out the new name of his account and determined it was still active. He said Instagram sent security codes to access his account but it was sent to the hacker’s email.Copiano is still not sure how he got his account back, but said after dozens of attempts, the security code was sent to his phone and he was able to access his account. He immediately changed his password and emphasized he did not pay the ransom. “You should never send money to a hacker because he’s not going to give you your account back,” Copiano said.Security expert Ted Harrington, executive partner with Independent Security Evaluators, agrees. “The reason you don’t pay the ransom is that [it] just further incentivizes other bad guys to keep doing this,” Harrington said. He also encourages people to contact the FBI if they believe they are a victim of a crime to file a report. Harrington also said two-factor authentication is vital to keeping an account safe. It is something Copiano did not have at the time, but added it right after he got his account back. “Two-factor authentication is essentially an additional way to verify who you are,” Harrington said. “Two-factor authentication is one of the most impactful security features that exist today.” A spokesperson with Instagram said they recently launched a new in-app experience making it easier for people to sign in and reclaim an account if it has been hacked. They sent the following information to Team 10:There are two ways to access this experience: 1) if we detect you are having trouble logging in (for e.g. if you repeatedly enter an incorrect password), or 2) by clicking “Need more help” on the login page.The experience will ask you to enter different types of information specific to your account, for example, the email address or phone number associated with your account, or the email or phone number you used when you signed up to Instagram.From there, we will send a 6 digit code to the contact information you select, which will allow you to regain access to your account. When you re-gain access to your account, we will take additional measures to ensure a hacker cannot use codes sent to your email address of phone number to access your account from a different device.This experience allows you to recover your account even if the account information has been changed by a hacker e.g. if the username and associated contact information is changed.The Instagram spokesperson also said if someone gains access through a compromised email account, people can follow steps detailed on the Help Center. 3709

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A jury Tuesday found a man guilty of beating and raping two women on consecutive days in 2016. Jeremiah Ira Williams, 26, was found guilty on multiple charges Tuesday, including forcible rape and false imprisonment. Williams now faces 100 years to life in prison. His sentencing will be on May 30. A prosecutor Monday urged the jury to convict Williams, who is accused of choking and raping two women in different parts of San Diego on consecutive days in 2016.A defense attorney argued that police infused suspicions from the second case into the initial attack and mishandled evidence.Williams is charged with 13 counts including forcible rape, false imprisonment, sodomy and making a criminal threat.Earlier in the trial, Williams was removed from the courtroom for being disruptive and was not present Tuesday as attorneys presented their final arguments.Deputy District Attorney Trisha Amador told jurors that Williams followed Jane Doe #1 from a parking structure to her University City apartment on August 13.With her keys in the door, she was knocked down, robbed at gunpoint and choked to a point where she thought she was going to die, the prosecutor said.After being taken inside the apartment, Williams beat and raped her, Amador argued. The next day, Williams beat and raped a woman working as a prostitute after meeting her in a motel in Grantville, Amador said.Jane Doe #2 was reportedly so terrified that she broke a window and jumped through it to get away.Deputy Public Defender Thomas Bahr told the jury that a detective had a feeling the two sexual assaults may be connected and jumped to conclusions in an attempt to solve the first attack.Bahr also told the jury that Jane Doe #2 lied throughout the investigation and said her story contained inconsistencies.Bahr said Jane Doe #1 was a “true victim,” yet she couldn’t assist police in making a composite sketch of her attacker. 1943

Stephen Hage entered the courtroom as a free man, but left in shackles. Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin exposed the San Diego contractor back in 2018. Late last year, Hage pleaded guilty to three counts of grand theft and two counts of theft from an elder. Wednesday, he was sentenced to one year in custody on the charges. RELATED: Contractor accused of taking money and not finishing the jobWhile he was waiting for sentencing on the charges, a San Diegan now living in Arizona says that hasn’t stopped Hage from working. The man says Hage took his money and didn’t finish the job. The accusations brought up in court today. Prosecutors say total restitution to Hage’s 22 San Diego victims is about ,000. Wednesday, he brought in a check that’s not even close. “To come to court with ,700 after numerous months really isn’t sufficient.”The defense arguing he’s doing the best he can. “He’s not taking money from people and living this life of luxury, he’s barley getting by. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man claimed four off-duty San Diego Police officers beat up him outside of a local bar.“I have a laceration on the back of my head, three staples, a lot of bruises a lot of cuts on the face,” said Jonathan Felix.Standing in his attorney’s office, Jonathan Felix described a November night he’ll never forget."All I remember is waking up in my own pool of blood a few times,” Felix told 10News.Felix said that after working a shift at a restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter, he stopped by a Mission Valley bar for a drink.He said he lives nearby and uses its parking lot because parking in the area is scarce.According to Felix, before he headed home for the night, he saw four men standing near his car. He said he didn’t know them, but wanted to make sure the valuables he had in his vehicle were safe.He said after a few interactions with the guys, they didn't leave and appeared to be intoxicated.He claimed the men never identified themselves as San Diego Police officers."I felt threatened for my life,” Felix said.Felix's attorney said at some point, Jonathan Felix pulled a gun and held it at his side. The officers surrounded him, and the situation escalated.The San Diego Police department saw it differently, calling the off-duty officers victims of assault with a deadly weapon.
