CARLSBAD, Calif. Deussen began the trek wanting to give his son a special experience before he starts school for the first time in September, according to Legoland.RELATED: Legoland offers guests free admission on their birthday in 2019His son being a big Lego fan, Deussen suggested the global tour. The trip took the father eight months of planning, hours he said he would never trade. “100 percent it was worth it. I would absolutely do it again," Deussen said.In less than two weeks, the duo completed a world tour of all eight of the theme parks:June 27 – LEGOLAND Windsor June 28 – LEGOLAND BillundJune 30 – LEGOLAND DeutschlandJuly 1 – LEGOLAND DubaiJuly 3 – LEGOLAND MalaysiaJuly 5 – LEGOLAND JapanJuly 7 – LEGOLAND CaliforniaJuly 8-9 – LEGOLAND FloridaIn Carlsbad, the father and son began their stay at the Legoland Castle Hotel, before exploring Miniland U.S.A, the deep sea on the Lego City Deep Sea Adventure Submarine ride, and meeting a throng of Lego characters. And, of course, playing with a bunch of Legos.RELATED: Recreation Destination: San Diego ranks at top of U.S. citiesLegoland says the pair's journey isn't quite complete though. CARMEL — The pastor of a Catholic church in Carmel, Indiana, is facing scrutiny after he compared Black Lives Matter demonstrators to "maggots and parasites" in a since-deleted post on the church's website.Bishop Timothy L. Doherty of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana said Father Theodore Rothrock of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church should issue a clarification of the post Rothrock wrote Sunday in a weekly message. The group Carmel Against Racial Injustice called on Doherty to remove Rothrock from his position."The only lives that matter are their own and the only power they seek is their own," Rothrock wrote. "They are wolves in wolves clothing, masked thieves and bandits, seeking only to devour the life of the poor and profit from the fear of others. They are maggots and parasites at best, feeding off the isolation of addiction and broken families, and offering to replace any current frustration and anxiety with more misery and greater resentment."Rothrock continued, writing that, "We must stand in solidarity with our brethren across the world to oppose this malevolent force."He also questioned if Frederick Douglass and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have marched in today's demonstrations and criticized the removal of monuments."Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and the other nefarious acolytes of their persuasion are not the friends or allies we have been led to believe," Rothrock wrote. "They are serpents in the garden, seeking only to uproot and replant a new species of human made in the likeness of men and not in the image of God. Their poison is more toxic than any pandemic we have endured."The post has been deleted from the church's website, however, an archive of the message was captured on the Internet Archive.Doherty said in a written post on the website of the Diocese of Lafayette-of-Indiana that he expects Rothrock to explain his message."I neither approved nor previewed that article," Doherty said. "Pastors do not submit bulletin articles or homilies to my offices before they are delivered. I expect Father Rothrock to issue a clarification about his intended message. I have not known him to depart from Church teaching in matters of doctrine and social justice."The group Carmel Against Racial Injustice called on Doherty to remove Rothrock as a priest and require training and education for priests and deacons on systemic racism and diversity. They also invited parishioners of the church, members of the community and other religious leaders to denounce Rothrock's statements."Carmel Against Racial Injustice is disgusted and shocked by the recent letter written by Father Theodore Rothrock," the group said in a statement. "We are also deeply saddened by the fact that the church leadership did not condemn the statement and saw fit to allow its publication. Silence is the action of being complicit in injustice."The group plans to gather from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sunday on the sidewalk surrounding the church to peacefully protest Rothrock's statement.Rothrock has not yet responded to WRTV's request for comment. This story was originally published by Daniel Bradley at WRTV. 3138

CARLSBAD (KGTV) -  A new airline will begin flying from Carlsbad's McClellan Airport, trying to give North County travelers an alternative to Lindbergh Field.California Pacific Airlines will take off for the first time on Friday, with a flight to San Jose. They also have flights planned for Reno, Sacramento, Las Vegas, and Phoenix/Mesa by the end of November. The airline already offers flights from Denver to several cities in South Dakota."We’ll be flying at least 15 flights a day in the next two months," says CEO Ted Vallas. "We're getting a great reception for it."Vallas says his airline will offer competitive rates, but travelers will save money in the long run because they won't have to first drive up to an hour to Lindbergh Field or pay to park. The airline hit a snag on its first morning, however, having to postpone its inaugural flight Thursday. A mechanical problem delayed the airplane in Denver.Vallas says that's not a sign of things to come, noting that his airline will have a fleet of 15 to 25 planes stationed at all cities it serves.McClellan Airport has had problems keeping commercial travel. Last spring, CalJet had to shut down after trying to launch service to and from Las Vegas.Passengers at the airport this week say they're excited about the ability to fly out of Carlsbad."It's just a 10 minute drive for me," says Carlsbad resident Walt Stringer. "I live a couple of miles south of the airport, so it’s very convenient."Information on flights and booking info can be found at the airline's website. 1549

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- First responders in Carlsbad are prepared for any emergency, thanks to their state of the art training facility."This is how we become good," says Carlsbad Fire Captain Scott Tucker. "This is our hallowed ground where we get to spend all the time, make the mistakes here, so we don't make them out there."The Carlsbad Safety Training Center spans four acres. It includes a four-story live burn tower, a two-story home, and a main street replica. It also has two shooting ranges, classrooms, and computer simulation rooms. The parking lot can also be used for driving simulations and tests."It's realistic training," says Carlsbad Police Captain Peter Pascual. "The officers can utilize what they learn in the training environment, out in the field."The shooting ranges are adaptable, letting agencies set up different scenarios. They can even drive cars into the range. "It allows us to get in the right frame of mind in how to survive and solve these problems in the field," says Pascual. "We try to create scenarios that are realistic and functional for the success of the officers in the field.""It allows us to get a good foundation in training and build on stuff that we normally don't get to do," says Tucker.Facility Manager Jason Kennedy says the complex tries to stay as modern as possible, always adding more ways to train."We're always looking forward, cause training is so dynamic," says Kennedy. "We're trying to look forward at what things are emerging in the environment."The facility has become so popular, other state and federal agencies have rented the facility from Carlsbad for their own training events. This year, 28 different agencies from around California and the rest of the United States have booked time to train in Carlsbad. Hundreds have stopped by either for tours or training since it opened."It is movie-esque," says Tucker. "It's an amazing facility, and it is state of the art."To learn more about the facility, click here. 1993
