SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The county's second case of measles this year has been reported, health officials announced Tuesday. The person was fully immunized but came into contact with an 11-month-old San Diego resident who contracted the disease after a recent trip to the Philippines. The second patient may have also exposed the public to measles at two locations, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services said. Those locations are:85? Bakery Café, 3361 Rosecrans Street, on Aug. 15, 16, 17 and 18 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Min Sok Chon Korean Restaurant, 4620 Convoy Street, on Aug. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.Ralph’s, 3011 Alta View Drive, on Aug. 16 from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.Officials added the case is under investigation and more locations may be identified later.“If you were at any of the locations at the dates and times listed, you should watch for symptoms of measles and call your health care provider if you show any signs of developing the disease,” said Dean Sidelinger, County interim deputy public health officer. “Measles is a very contagious disease that can be easily spread by coughing, sneezing or being in the same room with an infected person.”Measles can develop about seven to 21 days after exposure to the disease. Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. A distinctive red rash also appears one to four days after symptoms appear, starting on the face and head then spreads downward and outward. A person is considered contagious four days before the rash appears.Anyone with symptoms is asked to call their doctor’s office before visiting directly.Complications from measles are more common in children younger than 5 and adults 20 years and older, though the risk is higher with children. Complications include diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. In severe instances, death can occur.Since there is no treatment for measles, the best course is generally bed rest, fluids, and fever-control medication. Those will other health problems may need treatment for those specific conditions as well. 2073

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Tens of thousands of jobs are on the line as Congress struggles to save the airline industry, but a new bill announced Friday is giving some aviation workers hope. For Dante Harris, it’s more than a job.“It's a career that I would never want to exchange for any other,” said Harris. In his 21 years as a flight attendant with United Airlines, he’s traveled to every corner of the world. Now, he’s among the tens of thousands laid off after Congress failed to pass a stimulus bill this weekHarris is the president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA Council 12 union stationed at LAX, which also serves San Diego and Seattle members. He says about 2,500 United Airlines workers on the west coast lost their income and health care.It comes as an incredibly hard blow for the first responders of the sky who already faced countless challenges due to COVID-19.“We provide service to make sure that doctors and nurses get to where they need to go, to make sure that Americans are safe,” said Harris. On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said if a bipartisan agreement is not reached, she’ll push for a standalone bill to extend payroll protections for airline workers for another six months.Harris is calling on Washington to extend that crucial funding so airline workers can get their wings back.“We need that bridge to get us to the point where we can bounce back,” said Harris. “And we can fly America to all corners of the earth again.” 1468

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video reveals a City Heights man was seconds away from a showdown with an armed intruder who got away with a "priceless" stone.Along 41st Street, past 6 p.m. Friday, a man whose face is hidden by a bandanna, was recorded creeping into D.R. Peck's back yard from a canyon. "The full mask is the scary part. Notice he has gloves," said Peck.In the video, the burglar discovers an unlocked door and enters a bedroom. More than 10 minutes later, he emerges with a briefcase. He drops it off before heading back inside. Not long after, the cameras show Peck wheeling in the trash can near the front of the home after returning home from running errands. At the same time, the intruder — likely hearing Peck return — bails out of the house through the back entrance. A flash of a knife seen in his hand."I walk in and see a mess ... Oh my God. Someone's been in my house," said Peck.Amid the ransacked bedroom, there were missing items: electronics, a special edition "The Flash" comic book worth more than 0, jewelry, and a red heart stone that he bought for his wife Wendy 10 years ago after proposing. It wasn't expensive, but it was priceless."She knew she was loved, exactly what I was wanting to say to her," said Peck. The two were only married for 27 days before Wendy died after a battle with ovarian cancer. Peck kept that heart stone close to his heart."When I looked at it, it reminded me I had soulmate, and her and I were that," said Peck.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1573

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Carte Hotel in the heart of Little Italy is not nearly as full as it could be.It had been open just a few months before the pandemic hit, "We had a great start until March and the virus started showing up," said general manager Henri Birmele.Like many other hotels in California, The Carte is only allowed to book rooms for essential workers. But staff is preparing for when the Governor says they can fully reopen. "We have sanitizers on every floor, every piece of equipment that's available we have throughout the building to take care of team members and hotel guests," Birmele said Common areas will be sanitized every hour, the restaurant and rooftop bar will be spaced out to make it easier to social distance, valet service won't be available, there will be at least 12 hours and a deep clean between when one person checks out and another checks in and room service will leave orders at the door instead of bringing them in. The Carte is hoping to ease people back into hotels by encouraging "staycations" and planning to offer locals discounts and deals. "How people react, I don't know. I think time will tell. I think we have all the precautions in place to make sure that everyone is safe during their stay," said Birmele. 1270

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The city of San Diego is one step closer to creating a regional energy company that would serve as an alternative to San Diego Gas and Electric. The city's Environment Committee voted 3-1 Thursday to advance the framework for the energy company to the full City Council, which it will consider Tuesday, The proposal, called Community Choice Aggregation, would include the city of San Diego and other entities such as Chula Vista, Encinitas, Imperial Beach and La Mesa. It would be managed under what is called a Joint Powers Authority. San Diego Gas and Electric would still deliver the energy, but the JPA would decide where it comes from. The city has previously estimated that it could save customers 5 percent under their SDG&E bills. Customers would be automatically enrolled, and would pay SDG&E exit fees (they can opt out of enrollment). The entity could help the city reach its climate goal of 100 percent renewable energy by 2035. It needs to get its proposal to the state Public Utilities Commission by the end of the year in order to start service in 2021. 1103
