I have strong sense of internal guidance, whatever you want to call that -- a voice, spirit, everybody has a different name for it."She said it turned out to be not nearly as strong when after meditating on a log she wanted to go back to her car.She tried one path and it didn't get her back to her car. She tried another and realized she wasn't on a human path; she was on a boar path."At that point I had no choice because everything looked the same. I said, 'The only thing I have is my gut. I don't have a compass. I don't have a cell phone,'" she said. "'So, spirit,' or whatever you want to pray to, I said, 'I need your help right now.'"She said she listened to her sense of guidance, which instead of taking her back to her car, took her on a 5-mile journey, one she called a "spiritual boot camp."She spent 17 days in the woods trying to stay alive and catch the attention of searchers in helicopters. A third horse died in three days at Santa Anita when it collided with another horse during training hours on Sunday. Tikkun Olam, a 4-year-old gelding trained by Eric Kuljac, was euthanized because of his undisclosed injuries. The other horse apparently wasn't injured. Santa Anita has had five horse deaths since Dec. 26, two days before the winter-spring meet began. Last year, 37 horses died at the Southern California racetrack. A shooting at a bowling alley late Friday left three men dead and four people wounded in Southern California, and police are trying to find whoever fired the shots, authorities said.The gunshots at the Gable House Bowl in Torrance went off just before midnight. A rare celestial event is about to take place over the morning skies of the United States on Monday involving the Sun and the planet Mercury. According to NASA, Mercury will pass directly between the Sun and Earth, causing a small part of the Sun to be obscured by Mercury’s shadow. Although the effect is similar to a solar eclipse — where the moon passes between the Sun and Earth — traditional solar eclipse glasses will not work for Monday’s transit. Whereas the moon is capable of blocking all of the Sun’s light from reaching the Earth, Mercury’s size and distance means only a fraction of the Sun will be blocked. That does not mean you’re out of luck. More than 60 astronomical groups across the United States will host viewing parties to allow the public to witness the rare celestial event. A telescope with a solar filter will make it possible for people to witness the transit. The transit will begin around 7:35 a.m. ET on Monday and last over 5 hours. For those in the western half of the U.S., the transit will last for a few hours after sunrise, allowing for most Americans the opportunity to witness the transit.
