BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecom equipment giant Huawei Technologies said Motorola's charges of stealing confidential information about its cellular network equipment is groundless, the China Daily reported Saturday.Motorola on Wednesday said one of its former staff engineers, who now works with a Huawei reseller called Lemko, had provided information about a new transceiver and other Motorola technology to Ren Zhengfei, the founder of Huawei Technologies, the newspaper said."The complaint is groundless and utterly without merit. Huawei has no relationship with Lemoko, other than a reseller agreement," Huawei wrote in an e-mail to the newspaper, adding that it will defend themselves against these baseless allegations.The Chinese telecom equipment company had been planning to tap into the United States market via acquisitions.It is believed Huawei is interested in deals including a 1.2-billion-U.S. dollar Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) purchase of the wireless network assets from Motorola, and Ericssons's 1.13-billion-U.S. dollar takeover of Nortel Networks' mobile unit, according to the newspaper.Wang Yuquan, senior consultant with research firm Frost&Sullivan China, told the newspaper that though Huawei has not been successful in its efforts in the U.S. market so far, it may gain some of the customers impacted by the NSN takeover.

TOKYO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- New Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa on Friday called for deepening of Sino-Japanese mutually beneficial strategic relations."In recent years the leaders of the two countries have created a conducive environment for the development of bilateral ties. I am very glad to see that," Niwa told Chinese press in Tokyo.Upon his assignment to China, the Japanese ambassador said China and Japan, as close neighbors, should deal with each other for the upcoming 1,000 or 2,000 years rather than 10 or 20 years. In the long run, both countries share a lot of common interests, and a stable, friendly relationship is the ultimate goal.The former president of Itochu Corp. said that he aimed to boost communication, strengthen economic cooperation, and build on the mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries.Niwa also said in the age of multipolarization, no one can conduct diplomacy with knowledge of China alone. So the relations with South Korea, and the United States are also important.Niwa was appointed by Prime Minister Naoto Kan in June to the key diplomatic post, making him the first ambassador to China from outside the government sector since the two countries normalized ties in 1972. BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese government official said Sunday China had approved renewing the operation license of Beijing Guxiang Information Technology Co. Ltd., operator of Google's China website.The official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), who spoke anonymously, told Xinhua that the result of its annual checkup on Google was "Approved after Rectification."Guxiang submitted an application letter to the MIIT on June 29 to renew Google's Internet Content Provider (ICP) license, a permit to run websites in China.In the application letter, Guxiang pledged to "abide by Chinese law," and "ensure the company provides no law-breaking content as stipulated in the 57th statement in China's regulations concerning telecommunications."The statement says that any organization or individual is prohibited from using the Internet to spread any content that attempts to subvert state power, undermine national security, infringe on national reputation and interests, or that incites ethnic hatred and secession, transmits pornography or violence.Guxiang also accepted that all content it provides is subject to supervision of government regulators, said the official.

NANJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The population of China, the world's most populous country, is projected to reach 1.39 billion by the end of 2015, with those age 60 or over topping 200 million people, said Li Bin, head of the country's top population policy agency.Li, director of the National Population and Family Planning Commission, released these estimates Saturday during a speech at the annual conference of the China Population Association in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province.The urban population is projected to be over 700 million over the next five years, for the first time exceeding the rural population, according to Li.She said the increase in the next five years would be based upon the nation's population momentum, which, according to her, would begin to decline after 2015.Population momentum is the tendency of a highly fertile population that has been rapidly increasing in size to continue to do so for decades after the onset of even a substantial decline in fertility.Chinese government statistics show China's population stood at 1.32 billion at the end of 2008, which was about 2.5 times the number in 1949 when the People's Republic of China was founded.To put a hold on the fast growth, the Chinese government adopted a one-child policy in the late 1970s. The policy had helped China's total population increase less than 40 percent between 1978 and 2008, whereas it nearly doubled between 1949 and 1978.However, during the next five years the development of China's population is expected to go through major transitional changes, Li said.China's first boom in its aging population is expected in the next five years, with roughly an average of eight million people turning 60 each year, 3.2 million more than occurred between 2006 and 2010, she said.In the coming five years, the ratio of the population aged 15 to 59 would peak and then slowly fall, whereas the population dependency ratio, a measure of the proportion of the population too young or too old to work, would rise for the first time after over 40 years of decreasing.In general, China would still retain the advantage of a plentiful labor supply and a relatively low population dependency ratio, she said.
