CARMEL — The pastor of a Catholic church in Carmel, Indiana, is facing scrutiny after he compared Black Lives Matter demonstrators to "maggots and parasites" in a since-deleted post on the church's website.Bishop Timothy L. Doherty of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana said Father Theodore Rothrock of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church should issue a clarification of the post Rothrock wrote Sunday in a weekly message. The group Carmel Against Racial Injustice called on Doherty to remove Rothrock from his position."The only lives that matter are their own and the only power they seek is their own," Rothrock wrote. "They are wolves in wolves clothing, masked thieves and bandits, seeking only to devour the life of the poor and profit from the fear of others. They are maggots and parasites at best, feeding off the isolation of addiction and broken families, and offering to replace any current frustration and anxiety with more misery and greater resentment."Rothrock continued, writing that, "We must stand in solidarity with our brethren across the world to oppose this malevolent force."He also questioned if Frederick Douglass and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have marched in today's demonstrations and criticized the removal of monuments."Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and the other nefarious acolytes of their persuasion are not the friends or allies we have been led to believe," Rothrock wrote. "They are serpents in the garden, seeking only to uproot and replant a new species of human made in the likeness of men and not in the image of God. Their poison is more toxic than any pandemic we have endured."The post has been deleted from the church's website, however, an archive of the message was captured on the Internet Archive.Doherty said in a written post on the website of the Diocese of Lafayette-of-Indiana that he expects Rothrock to explain his message."I neither approved nor previewed that article," Doherty said. "Pastors do not submit bulletin articles or homilies to my offices before they are delivered. I expect Father Rothrock to issue a clarification about his intended message. I have not known him to depart from Church teaching in matters of doctrine and social justice."The group Carmel Against Racial Injustice called on Doherty to remove Rothrock as a priest and require training and education for priests and deacons on systemic racism and diversity. They also invited parishioners of the church, members of the community and other religious leaders to denounce Rothrock's statements."Carmel Against Racial Injustice is disgusted and shocked by the recent letter written by Father Theodore Rothrock," the group said in a statement. "We are also deeply saddened by the fact that the church leadership did not condemn the statement and saw fit to allow its publication. CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Lee County mom kept her son home from school on Monday because she felt it was inappropriate for the school to allow children to have a water gun fight in the wake of recent school shootings.The mother, who did not want to be identified because she didn't want to identify her son, said during a time when students are put through active shooter training, encouraging students to shoot what she calls water guns at each other is inappropriate.The Lee County School District is calling them "squirt toys," and says they're not water guns."What is this? Put the fun back in the gun? I don't understand it. It completely contradicts everything they stand for," the mom said.She said her son came home from Mariner Middle School recently and told her he would need money for a water gun fight on field day."This is completely asinine. I don't understand. They're telling us it's necessary to teach them there's no tolerance for guns. You enter the property, it's a gun free zone. Yet they're saying here's a gun, point it at me, point it at your fellow student and pull the trigger," she said.She said she understands they're meant for fun.  "But who knows what's going on inside these kids heads now-a-days. How do you know they're not fantasizing about the adrenaline rush of what if this is real?" she said.She said given the timing of the Santa Fe school shooting and increased sensitivity in Florida after the Parkland shooting, this activity isn't appropriate."Any other day of the year, according to the Lee County School District code of conduct policy, there's no fake weaponry even allowed on school," she said. The Lee County School District spokesperson said they're not water guns, they're squirt toys or pool toys. (KGTV) — Authorities have identified the woman found stabbed to death on a North County trail.San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the woman as 68-year-old Lisa Thorborg of Carlsbad. Thorborg was found fatally stabbed on the Hosp Grove trail on Monday, Carlsbad Police say.Police believe the stabbing occurred between about 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., before her body was found by a passerby who called police around 11:30 a.m.RELATED: Carlsbad police: Woman found dead on hiking trail was stabbed to deathA tipster led investigators to identify a suspect as white or Hispanic, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a husky build and a tan complexion with dark hair. California health officials are warning residents not to eat oysters from British Columbia, Canada, following a norovirus outbreak.About 100 people got sick in California after they consumed the raw oysters, health officials said."As of April 27, approximately 100 individuals have reported illness after they consumed raw British Columbian oysters sold by restaurants and retailers throughout the state," the California Department of Public Health said."Laboratory testing has confirmed norovirus infection in several patients from both California and Canada. Although the number of reported new illnesses has decreased during the last week, the investigation is ongoing."Canada has reported 172 cases of gastrointestinal illness linked to consumption of raw oysters."Avoid eating raw and undercooked shellfish, including oysters, to reduce your risk of illness," said Dr. Karen Smith, a public health officer in California."If you do eat shellfish, cook it until it reaches an internal temperature of at least 145°F. Quick steaming isn't sufficient to kill norovirus."Norovirus is spread through the ingestion of infectious virions, which grow in the small intestine before being expelled in feces. Infection usually occurs when someone eats food or drinks liquids that have been contaminated, touches surfaces or objects that are contaminated and then puts their hands in their mouth, or has contact with someone who has been infected, such as by sharing food.Norovirus causes inflammation of the stomach, the intestines or both.
