A week after a 13-year-old girl vanished, a local sheriff is seeking a cadre of volunteers that's equivalent to two-thirds of the population of the small Wisconsin city near the teenager's home.Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald on Monday asked for 2,000 volunteers to help authorities in an expanded routine search of the area around the crime scene Tuesday for possible evidence in the investigation into Jayme Closs' disappearance. The teenager vanished early October 15 and her parents were found fatally shot in their home near the city of Barron in northwestern Wisconsin. Barron, a city of less 3 square miles, has a population of about 3,300, according to US Census figures.Monday's call for volunteers is 10 times the number of volunteers the sheriff sought last week. A woman in Illinois who tried to spike a toddler's sippy cup of milk with nail polish remover has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of Carol Stream, Illinois was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child under 13 earlier this year.In May 2016, Vazquez-Hernandez mixed "one inch" of nail polish remover with milk and gave it to her husband's daughter. The girl immediately spit out the milk when she tasted the nail polish remover and was taken to the hospital. She was later released, and tests later revealed that her milk had been spiked.The girl had been fathered by Vazquez-Hernandez's husband with another woman, and Vazquez-Hernandez reportedly tried to poison the girl in order to punish her father.During her sentencing, the Chicago Tribune reports that Vazquez-Hernandez told the judge that she thanked God that the child was OK, but the judge was reportedly concerned about Vazquez-Hernandez's "lack of remorse."Vazquez-Hernandez will be required to serve at least five years of her 10-year sentence before being released.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Efforts to change someone's sexual orientation are associated with poor mental health, including suicide, according to a report by the Williams Institute at University of California, Los Angeles. Conversion therapy is receiving more attention thanks to the newly released film featuring Nicole Kidman, "Boy Erased." It follows a college student as he undergoes conversion therapy at the same program Sullivan was a part of. Sullivan told his family he was gay when he was 19-years-old. However, that never stopped him in his journey to pursue his faith in God. "I wanted to please God," Sullivan said. "I sort of fell in love with this idea of God being the only entity that loved me unconditionally."As a student at Crichton College in Memphis, Tennessee, now known as Victory University, Sullivan came across a program affiliated with Love In Action, a Memphis-based, ex-gay ministry aimed to convert homosexuals. "I voluntarily sought out a 'therapist' that was affiliated with them. A woman accused of mailing poison to President Donald Trump sent six similar letters to prison officials in Texas, according to court documents obtained by Scripps station WKBW in Buffalo, New York.Pascale Ferrier was arrested Sunday on the Peace Bridge — the bridge over Lake Erie that connects the U.S. and Canada at Buffalo, New York. Pascale, who was reportedly in possession of a gun and a knife, was charged with threatening the President of the United States.Ferrier's arrest came a day after the FBI announced it was investigating a suspicious letter addressed to Trump that contained ricin, a poison found naturally in castor seeds.According to an arrest warrant obtained Tuesday, Ferrier's referred to Trump in her letter as "The Ugly Tyrant Clown," and called for him to resign."You ruin USA and lead them to disaster. I have US cousins, then I don't want the next 4 years with you as president. Give up and remove your application for this election," she allegedly wrote.Ferrier's letter also referred to a "special gift" included in the envelope."This gift is in this letter," she allegedly wrote. " If it doesn't work, I'll find better recipe for another poison, or I might use my gun when I'll be able to come. Enjoy! FREE REBEL SPIRIT."According to an affidavit, the letters found in Texas also included a powdery substance, references to trying "another recipe" and also included the signature "FREE REBEL SPIRIT." Team physician Dr. Jimmy Robinson and head trainer Jeff Allen said in a joint statement that the positive test came Wednesday morning. The top-ranked Crimson Tide host No. 22 Auburn on Saturday. The statement says Saban has "very mild symptoms, so this test will not be categorized as a potential false positive."
