BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's central government will, for the first time, reserve vacancies for farmers and workers in this year's nationwide civil service exams.The announcement was made on Wednesday by the State Administration of Civil Service (SACS), which is in charge of recruiting central government employees.Millions of farmers living in the country's rural areas were not allowed to take the exam selecting central government officials until 2006, when the restriction of household registration, or hukou, was lifted.According to the administration, those reserved vacancies will be allocated among departments of the customs, state taxation and railway police at country-level or below.The SACS posted a notice for the exams on its website, but did not specify the number of reserved vacancies.The central government plans to recruit more than 16,000 public servants in 2011, 1,000 more than in 2010. About 85 percent of the vacancies require at least two-years grassroots work experience, up 15 percentage points from the previous year.The SACS also revealed that 100 positions were specially created for college graduates who had served in villages to encourage more college students to work in rural regions after graduation.Registration for this year's exams will start on Friday.

China would seek a balance between stable and relatively fast economic growth, restructuring and inflation expectation management.Consistency and stability of the macro-economic policies would be maintained, while improving their flexibility, scientific properties and foresight to guard against potential risks and avoid drastic economic fluctuations.Short and long-term macro-economic controls would be combined, while policies were coordinated to ensure stable and relatively fast economic growth.A long-term mechanism would be built to boost consumption demand.Consumption would be highlighted in expanding domestic demand to release urban and rural consumption potential and allow China to ascend to the top-ranking markets in the world, said the document.

BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Marine Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct a joint drill with their counterpart of Thailand, China's Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday.Called "Blue Assault-2010," the joint drill will take place in Sattahip, Thailand, from Oct. 26 to Nov. 14, a ministry statement said.The joint training exercise will be the first for the PLA marines, according to the statement.The joint drill will focus on anti-terrorism. It will also aim at helping marines from Thailand and China learn from each other, enhance mutual understanding, step up friendly exchange and cooperation in a bid to improve the capabilities of both countries' marine corps to handle new challenges and threats together.
