A customer is being hailed as a hero after he charged a gunman who had opened fire early Sunday at a Waffle House in the Nashville area, killing four and injuring others.Police and an eyewitness said the man's actions prevented further bloodshed at the restaurant in Antioch.Don Aaron, spokesman for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, said the customer came from the bathroom area and grappled with the suspect, identified as Travis Reinking, for control of an assault-style rifle.The man, who police did not identify, was able to wrestle the weapon away and toss it over the counter. A judge has decided a university was justified in moving an event by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro to a smaller venue for safety concerns, according to reports.Shapiro, a lawyer, former Breitbart editor and author of several books, was scheduled to speak at the University of Minnesota in February 2018.The group that requested Shapiro’s appearance, Students for a Conversative Voice, requested the use of a large, 1,000+ seat venue on the Minneapolis campus. However, University officials at the time decided the event needed to be held at a venue on the St. Paul campus that seats less than 500 people because of security concerns.The student group claimed in their lawsuit against the university the venue change resulted in limiting the number of people who could attend and denying them the ability to participate in the event.A judge on Friday threw out the lawsuit, according to the Pioneer Press, saying the university had legitimate safety concerns because of other incidents after Shapiro events on other campuses.Large crowds of protesters have appeared at Shapiro events, some resulting in arrests. At a September 2017 event in Berkeley, California, part of the area around campus was closed down and barriers erected to handle demonstrators; several people were arrested during the incident.The University of Minnesota reportedly spent ,000 on security for their event in February 2018. 1417

A little girl with a passion for writing letters is now becoming a published author.Emerson Weber went viral earlier this year when her dad tweeted her story.Emerson had about a dozen pen-pals at the time. She writes them letters filled with jokes and stories, and she always decorates the envelopes.“It's like a little piece of art that someone's going to find in their mailbox, and I get my inspiration from everywhere,” said Weber, author of “Sincerely, Emerson.”Weber wanted to thank her mail carrier for always taking all her letters, so she wrote him too. Her mail carrier then shared that letter with his supervisor at work, who shared it regionally, and the responses poured in. Two boxes full of letters from postal workers arrived.Some sent back stamps or asked her to send a letter to more people in their family.Many postal workers said they felt seen for the first time in a long time, and she wrote back to all of them.“In this time that's a little crazy, they're still out there doing their job, so we can stay connected to our pen pals and people we love,” said Weber.After her story spread online, even more people from all over started writing Weber.She hopes when people read her book, they realize how one act of kindness can spread.“And I also hope they take the time to write a letter because people really appreciate that,” she said. “Your grandparents, your friends, anyone would really love to get a letter from you and it's just so meaningful.”Her picture book based on the viral story, “Sincerely Emerson,” comes out next week. 1562

A Dutch woman is believed to be the first person in the world to die after contracting COVID-19 for a second time, according to multiple reports.Scientists report the 89-year-old woman suffered from a type of bone marrow cancer. She was admitted to the hospital earlier this year with severe cough and fever, and tested positive for the coronavirus. She left the hospital about a week later still feeling fatigue but other symptoms had gone.Two months later, she developed a fever, coughing and breathing difficulties, according to the Independent in the UK, while receiving chemotherapy treatment.The woman tested positive again for COVID-19 and doctors say she had no antibodies in her blood. She died two weeks later, according to CNN.Researchers believe the second infection was different and not prolonged symptoms of the first infection. They stated in their report the genetic makeup of the two virus samples from her infections are different. 958
