Three members of a white supremacist group were sentenced to prison Friday for kicking, choking and punching multiple people during the 2017 "United the Right" rally in Charlottesville and other rallies in California.Benjamin Daley, 26, was sentenced to 37 months in prison; 25-year-old Thomas Gillen was sentenced to 33 months; and Michael Miselis, 30, was sentenced to 27 months, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Virginia said in statement.The three were members of the California-based militant white supremacist organization "Rise Above Movement." The small mountain town is full of restaurants with its aroma filling the air, and the sound of the creek is soothing many people never want to leave. But what draws tourists to this place is the one person that never left. “People come here because they’re curious about the Frozen Dead Guy,” says Anne Taylor, the woman who runs the Nederland visitor center. “The man’s name – we call him Grandpa – Bredo Morstol. His family in Norway believed in cryonics, and when he passed away there, they sent him to a lab in California. And some point in the 90s, his grandson was here and he decided to have him sent here to the property that he had here up on the hill.”According to Taylor, in 1993, Bredo believed in cryonics and the possibility of being brought back to life after the advanced of modern medicine. But one question comes to mind to a lot of tourists: how is this legal?“Well, it’s not legal,” says Taylor. “At that point, there was no ordinance about it, because no one would think of having an ordinance about it. When this all came about, and it had to go to town council, the trustees passed an ordinance. Nobody else can do this, but grandpa got grandfathered in, so he’s still alive.”And year round, there is one man who takes care of Bredo. “Every two weeks, I come up here and bring in the dry ice,” says Brad Wickham, the caretaker of Bredo. “I take care of other needs that might need to be done, like trash off the property or keeping other people off the property.”Bredo is tucked away in a shed on what was his property. TOKYO, Japan – The prime minister of Japan has lifted a coronavirus state of emergency in Tokyo and the four other remaining areas in the country, ending the restrictions nationwide as businesses begin to reopen.Experts on a special government panel have approved a plan to remove the state of emergency from Tokyo and neighboring Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures, and in Hokkaido to the north, which had more cases and remained under the emergency declaration after it was removed in most of Japan earlier this month.The state of emergency lasted for more than a month and a half.Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said lifting of the emergency does not mean the end of the pandemic. He said the goal is to minimize next possible recurrences of infections while balancing preventive measures and the economy.Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared the state of emergency on April 7, first in parts of Japan including Tokyo, expanded it to the entire nation later in the month and extended it until the end of May. Unlike a European-style hard lockdown, Japan’s state of emergency is soft and largely a request for people to stay at home and for non-essential businesses to close or operate shorter hours, a strategy aiming at minimizing the economic damage.Tokyo and its three neighboring prefectures are to reopen schools, public facilities and businesses in phases in coming weeks while watching any signs of a resurgence of infections.Nishimura said recent data suggest that the infections have slowed enough, and the medical systems are under less pressure and that it’s time to gradually resume social and economic activity.
