SPRING VALLEY (CNS) - A 61-year-old man shot a female relative in the leg during an argument Sunday afternoon in Spring Valley.The woman, whose identity was withheld, was struck in the left leg just before 4 p.m. at 1605 Presioca St., said San Diego County sheriff Sgt. Elizabeth Montoya.Danny Goodman was detained by deputies for the shooting and a weapon was recovered at the scene, a sergeant said. The relationship of the two was not immediately explained.The woman was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment. Goodman was also taken to a hospital after complaining of shortness of breath, Montoya said. 621

Now, one lawmaker is fighting to make it illegal to report people simply based on race.It seems there’s a new viral incident, almost weekly. In April, a white Starbucks manager called police on two black males, who were waiting for their friend inside the Philadelphia store. The following month, a woman, dubbed BBQ Becky by the internet, called police on black men who were grilling in a park in Oakland, Calf. Then, there’s Permit Patty, who called to report a young black girl selling water without a permit on a San Francisco sidewalk.New York State Sen. Jesse Hamilton (D) proposed new legislation that would make calling police on law-abiding people of color a hate crime.  “We have to draw a line in the sand,” says Sen. Hamilton. “This is a phenomenon that's happening all throughout the country, where people are using the police as private security, to interrogate, to intimidate, to harass and humiliate.”Sen. Hamilton says it has even happened to him. He says a woman called police while he was campaigning in his own district, and all because she didn’t like his message.“I’m saying, no, that shouldn’t happen. No one should be interrogated or humiliated because of their color of their skin, political beliefs, sex orientation,” says Sen. ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Cardinals' game Friday against the Chicago Cubs was postponed after another St. Louis player tested positive for COVID-19. In a press release, Major League Baseball said the game was postponed to allow more time for additional testing and to complete the contact tracing process. The Cardinals have been off since last week when two players returned positive coronavirus tests. Eight players in total have tested positive, including star catcher Yadier Molina.ESPN reported the Cardinals already have games to make up due to postponing against the Milwaukee Brewers, who they were scheduled to play last week in a 3-game series. (KGTV) - Business leaders in Solana Beach are calling on the city government for more help as they try to recover from the coronavirus pandemic and its ensuing economic fallout.On June 10, the City Council agreed to set aside 0,000 of CARES Act funding to distribute as grant money to businesses with 25 or fewer employees.While business owners 10News spoke to say they're grateful for any help they can get, some feel it's not enough."We have 1,000 to 1,200 small businesses here in the city that would qualify," says Chamber of Commerce Co-President Ron Blumberg. "So, you do the math."City officials haven't decided how they'll divvy up the money, or what businesses will have to do to apply. They also haven't said how many businesses would receive the grants.But if the money is given out equally, or even pro-rated based on size, it would only amount to a few hundred dollars per business. Blumberg says he'd like to see the city combine that money with other business-friendly moves.Blumberg thinks the city could waive permit fees and restrictions to allow all businesses to expand to their sidewalks. He says they could also remove parking restrictions."Anything that the City can do, to allow businesses to do business under these really crazy circumstances," says Blumberg.The City Council says they're looking into options and has allowed restaurants to add seating on the sidewalks. But in their last council meeting, they decided not to close portions of Cedros Avenue to traffic, which would have allowed businesses in the popular design district to expand even more.Other business owners say they'd like the local government to play more of an advocate role, marketing the city and bringing awareness of what has reopened. The coronavirus sped up the process."We have set up signage outside and in the waiting area to get into the restaurant where the patron can see that they can actually download the menus onto their phones and then once they go to the tables they can go ahead and pull those menus up."General Manager at Cherry Cricket Ballpark, Samantha Taxin, said the way for people to pull up their menus is a success so far."It’s a safer way to pull up the digital menu. I’m barely printing menus so it seems to be really working for the public, to be able to pull that up.
