And while it remains to be seen whether Amazon can ever truly figure out how it wants to sell groceries — besides ALL the ways — the tech giant is certainly building off its digital foundation. And it took a big step toward acquiring a whole lot of data to help in the groceries endeavor on Friday.

And then of course there’s Rufus, the building named for a dog that a few early Amazon employees brought to work. Flicker said they used to pick up Rufus, a small corgi, and use the pup’s paws to click and launch parts of the website. Amazon is famous for its affinity for dogs, and Flicker said there are more than 2,000 dogs registered with employees.
And it’s not just Amazon and Microsoft pitching in. Facebook activated its “Safety Check” feature to allow users to notify their networks that they are safe as well as request and offer help. The feature functions as a virtual command center in some ways, with a description of the event, forecast, list of areas affected, ways that people can get involved in the relief efforts and a button to start a fundraiser.
