LIPAN, Texas – A man in Texas is dead after a possible mountain lion attack and officials are warning nearby residents to keep young children inside at night as they search for the animal.Around 3:30 p.m. last Thursday, deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 15000 block of Howell Rd. in Lipan in reference to a missing person call.Deputies were told Christopher Allen Whiteley, 28, was missing and last seen on Wednesday, in the early morning hours.Deputies checked a wooded area nearby and eventually found Whiteley deceased, the sheriff's office said.Preliminary findings show Whiteley died from a wild animal attack, possibly a mountain lion.The sheriff’s office has contacted a governmental trapper with the USDA, who specializes in tracking and removing mountain lions. Officers said they'll work with the trapper and Texas game wardens to locate the animal.The sheriff's office urged the Lipan community to be mindful of their surrounding and to keep their young children and animals inside at night.“The safety of Hood County citizens are my priority one, but please don’t interfere with the process of locating the animal and stay clear of the area being actively worked by officials," said Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.Whiteley’s body was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.This story was originally published by Thalia Brionez at KXXV. 1415

LA MESA, Calif (KGTV) - According to the California Department of Public Health, seven deficiencies were issued after an investigation of Sharp Grossmont Hospital. In April state investigators conducted a survey consisting of 14 closed medical records. According to the investigator's findings documented in a statement of deficiencies and plan of correction report, "Hospital leadership did not provide notification of a potential investigation and the use of video recording during medical treatment without patient's consent." Investigators also noted deficiencies with regulations related to medical staff accountability, patient's rights, and use of restraint or seclusion. According to the state document, "The patient has the right to personal privacy. This Statute is not met as evidenced by: Based on interview and record review, the hospital failed to ensure the privacy of all patients undergoing medical treatment in the WHC (women's health center) ORs (operating rooms) when the hospital's Admission Agreement for Inpatient and Outpatient Services was utilized as consent to allow video recording during medical treatment. Also, the Admission Agreement did not allow the patients' the option to acknowledge and/or decline video recording. As a result, the hospital leadership allowed video recording of patients undergoing medical treatment without knowledge or consent." The deficiencies listed fall under violations to conditions of participation for a hospital as listed in title 42 of the federal code of regulations.   A deficiency is a violation of a federal or state law or regulation that the California Department of Public Health cites during a survey or investigation.Officials with the California Department of Public Health tell 10News issuing deficiencies is a form of enforcement action. It requires the facility to submit a Plans of Correction to fix any violations. According to Sharp officials, in 2012 they were alerted that beginning in 2011, potentially powerful drugs and equipment were missing from the anesthesia cart in each of Sharp Grossmont Hospital's three Women's Center operating rooms. The hospital installed a computer monitor with a motion-activated camera in each of the three Women's Center operating rooms. Between July 2012 and June 2013, the videos were recorded. The hospital says the cameras were intended to record only individuals in front of the anesthesia carts. In a statement to 10News, a spokesperson for Sharp wrote:"In their survey, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) identified areas where opportunities for improvement existed. The hospital addressed each area of concern and created a plan of correction for those findings. Both CDPH and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) accepted Sharp Grossmont’s plan of correction, as confirmed in a follow-up survey. The hospital’s plan of correction provides that:The specific techniques used in the 2012-13 investigation have not been used since and will not be used for any future investigations.Any potential future investigations are required to strictly adhere to Sharp’s policies and procedures;Medical staff will be kept informed of any similar future investigations that may occur;Patients will receive full disclosure of any future investigations that may affect their privacy;The patient grievance practices have been strengthened to ensure patient complaints and grievances are appropriately and efficiently managed; andAdditional measures are in place to safeguard against the inadvertent release of patient information to third parties. Staff and clinicians have been educated on the hospital’s plan of correction and policies. While we are pleased that CDPH and CMS accepted our plan of correction, we regret that the investigation inadvertently recorded patients and may have caused distress to those we serve."More than 400 women who claim they were secretly recorded are suing the hospital.Court records show a hearing is scheduled in September. 4026

LANSING, Mich. – A Michigan judge has dismissed a lawsuit by President Donald Trump's campaign in a dispute over whether Republican challengers had access to the handling of absentee ballots.Judge Cynthia Stephens noted that the lawsuit was filed late Wednesday afternoon, just hours before the last ballots were counted. She also said the defendant, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, was the wrong person to sue because she doesn’t control the logistics of local ballot counting, even if she is the state’s chief election officer.The Associated Press called the Michigan presidential election for Democrat Joe Biden on Wednesday evening. Trump won the state in 2016.The lawsuit claimed Benson, a Democrat, was allowing absentee ballots to be counted without teams of bipartisan observers as well as challengers. She was accused of undermining the “constitutional right of all Michigan voters ... to participate in fair and lawful elections.”Benson, through state attorneys, denied the allegations. Much of the dispute centered on the TCF Center in Detroit where pro-Trump protesters gathered while absentee ballots were being counted. 1144

LARGO, Fla. — A Largo teen is being hailed a hero for his quick thinking and calm demeanor, two things paramedics say were crucial in saving his dad's life.In August, then 18-year-old Zachary Musgrave reacted in seconds after his dad had a major heart attack in the basement of the family's home."I was pretty terrified. I just held myself together the best I could," Musgrave said.Musgrave quickly dialed 911 an got through to 911 telecommunicator Matthew Albright, who coached him through performing CPR for the very first time."He was cool, calm and collected and followed directions to do exactly what he needed to do," Albright said.For seven minutes, Musgrave performed CPR on his dad before paramedics arrived. It's something first responders say saved his dad's life.Niesa Jones was one of the first Sunstar Paramedics to arrive on the scene."That's absolutely what happened," she said. "His son saved his life. We helped."David Musgrave, Zachary's father, was rushed to Largo Medical Center, and just nine days after his heart attack, he was cleared to come home. Paramedics called his recovery a miracle because he came into the hospital under cardiac arrest with a 100% blockage in his left anterior descending artery — what some refer to as a "widowmaker heart attack.""I looked at his charts and it's truly a miracle that the man is walking," said Patti Squires, the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Largo Medical Center.David Musgrave says his son has become his hero."I'm so proud of him. If it wasn't for him starting the process, I probably wouldn't be here," he said."I'm just thankful that I was there and I was able to save my dad. I'm just happy he's here with us today," Zachary Musgrave said.On Wednesday, David Musgrave and his four children met the first responders that helped keep him alive.Alana Morris, one of the first Largo Firefighter paramedics to arrive on the scene, said the ceremony was touching."To actually have a patient come back and thank us for what we did and to see him alive was just a great experience. There are no words to describe that," Morris said.Now, the Musgrave family's story is inspiring a new mission to save lives.On Nov. 3 at noon, Largo Medical Center will offer free hands-only CPR training online, which will be open to everyone.
