SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – California and two other Western states have issued travel advisories that include a 14-day quarantine for those visiting the states or returning home from outside travel.California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee put the advisories into action for their respective states on Friday. The announcement comes as travel is expected to ramp up for the holidays.The advisories urge “visitors entering their states or returning home from travel outside these states to self-quarantine to slow the spread of the virus. The travel advisories urge against non-essential out-of-state travel, ask people to self-quarantine for 14 days after arriving from another state or country and encourage residents to stay local.”CALIFORNIA TRAVEL ADVISORY ANNOUNCEMENTIn addition to the self-quarantine, the advisories recommend travelers “limit their interactions to their immediate household. The advisories define essential travel as travel for work and study, critical infrastructure support, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care and safety and security.”Newsom said in a news release, “Travel increases the risk of spreading COVID-19, and we must all collectively increase our efforts at this time to keep the virus at bay and save lives.”Brown added, “COVID-19 does not stop at state lines. As hospitals across the West are stretched to capacity, we must take steps to ensure travelers are not bringing this disease home with them. If you do not need to travel, you shouldn’t. This will be hard, especially with Thanksgiving around the corner. But the best way to keep your family safe is to stay close to home.”“Limiting and reducing travel is one way to reduce the further spread of the disease. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County law enforcement officials say overdose deaths from fentanyl have sharply increased since last year.The San Diego County District Attorney Office said in the first six months of 2020, there have been 203 fentanyl-related deaths: 119 have been confirmed and 84 are pending confirmation. The victims range in age from 17 to 66 years old.In all of 2019, there were 152 fentanyl-related overdose deaths in the county."This alarming uptick demonstrates that dealers continue cutting various illegal drugs with fentanyl and now more than ever it’s a recipe for death," said District Attorney Summer Stephan. "The public needs to be aware of the danger of using any controlled substance even if packaged like a harmless medicinal pill. Higher overdose numbers tell us there’s likely more product on the street in San Diego that may be laced with deadly fentanyl. I’m urging you to share this potentially life-saving message with your loved ones today."The DA's office says it is prosecuting several cases, including: In January, a 28-year-old smoked a powdery substance given to him by a friend. His mother found him unresponsive in the living room of her home. He was pronounced dead from a fentanyl overdose.In February, a 20-year-old suffering from anxiety, consumed a counterfeit oxycodone pill before going to bed. His roommates found him dead in the morning from a fentanyl overdose.In May, a 19-year-old purchased two Percocets from a friend. He consumed both pills and subsequently died from an overdose. He had fentanyl in his system at the time of his deathFentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and up to 50 times more potent than heroin, according to officials. Even in doses as little as two milligrams, the drug is lethal for most people. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As the number of vaping-related illnesses continues to rise across the country, local leaders are seeing a spike in marijuana vape users in San Diego. The DEA and local health officials are now laying out their plans to stop the crisis in our county. The number of people who have used marijuana vaping in San Diego has grown, including users who are underage. A study done by SANDAG shows 70 percent of juveniles and 61 percent of adults have reported vaping with THC products. The DEA says the best way to combat the spike is to crack down on illegal extraction labs. "The creation of the vaping cartridge process is not controlled in any way, shape, or form," says Assistant Special Agent in Charge Colin Ruane. "There's no quality control; there's no testing of the product. So when you get the THC, you don't know what you're getting and what you're inhaling."The DEA says the extraction of THC also poses a safety risk to the community. Four extraction labs have caused a fire or explosion in various areas around the county. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed over 1,800 cases of vaping related illnesses in the U.S. Many of those admitted to using THC products. 37 people have died. The DEA is working with its partners and other local organizations to continue to get the word out on the dangers of vaping. 1368

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Cinema Makeup School is at San Diego Comic-Con to turn some lucky attendees into zombies with special makeup effects.The Los Angeles-based theatrical makeup school is one of many special effects companies at the convention. 10News' Brooke Sargent volunteered for a complete transformation, becoming a dreaded creature in about 90 minutes as a crowd looked on.Cinema Makeup School has been teaching some of the industry's best artists since 1993. 472
