BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China Friday called on the international community to "act cautiously" on the Darfur issue as it is afraid rash action could damage peace and stability in Sudan.     "The involved parties should fully respect and listen carefully to the voices of the African Union (AU), the Arab League and African and Arabian countries," Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said in his meeting with visiting Sudanese president's envoy Awad Ahmed al-Jaz in Beijing.     "The international community should further promote the deployment of the UN/AU hybrid operation in Darfur", Xi said.     Xi called on the international community to help advance the political process, to ensure the Doha-mediated dialogue will achieve substantive progress and facilitate the smooth progress ofthe humanitarian aid in the Darfur region.     Under joint mediation of the United Nations (UN) and the AU, as well as the sponsorship of Qatar, the Sudanese government and rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) signed in Doha last month a goodwill agreement to pave the way for resumption of peace negotiations.     During the meeting, Xi also highlighted the growth of relations between China and Sudan since the two forged diplomatic relations 50 years ago. Xi noted China would regard the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to push traditional friendly relations to a higher level.     Echoing Xi's views, al-Jaz said that Sudan expected to continue to cement bilateral friendly cooperation with China in various fields and would firmly support China on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet.     He said the Sudanese government would never recognize the arrest warrant against President al-Bashir but still remained committed to working with the UN and AU and take effective measures to improve the humanitarian situation in Darfur and coordinate with the implementation of the UN/AU hybrid operation in the region.

MANDALAY, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), visited China-funded projects in Myanmar and other industrial and educational facilities amidst his on-going visit.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, visited the Myanmar's 3G core network, which was built by China's ZTE Corporation, one of China's leading telecom equipment producers.     After listening to reports from both sides, Li said that information and communication industry played an important role in modern society. "I am glad to see the results you have already achieved and hope you can enhance strategic cooperation in the telecom field."     He also urged ZTE and other Chinese companies in Myanmar to transfer technologies to their partners, train local technical contingent for better serving the clients and the local society.     On Friday afternoon, Li visited Hlaing Thar Yar city of industry and listened to the briefing of local officials. He also visited a plastic pipe plant and a factory of traditional Myanmar medicines.     Early on Saturday, Li flew from Yangon to Mandalay, the country's second largest city, and visited Mandalay industrial training center. The center was set up with a grant of 30 million RMB (4.39million U.S. dollar) from the Chinese government. It was designed to train local technicians for automotive production and maintenance.     Myanmar is the second-leg of Li's four-nation tour which will also take him to the Republic of Korea and Japan. ISTANBUL, Turkey, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The World Water Council (WWC) is ready for China's membership, WWC President Loic Fauchon said here Saturday evening.     During his meeting with Chinese Minister of Water Resources Chen Lei on the sideline of the 5th World Water Forum, Fauchon said he welcomes China to "the WWC family," and "we are ready to sign the agreement" which just need a few days to finalize the details of the pact.     "We need your experience and your tradition, It will be a nice relation," he added.     Chen said China is willing to participate WWC activities and China will shoulder the obligation and responsibility when it becomes a member.     Chen invited the president to visit Beijing. Fauchon said he is glad to visit the Chinese capital in May or June, when the both sides are expected to ink the pact.     WWC, created by a number of key water institutions in 1996, unites over 300 member organizations from more than 60 countries. It is an international multi-stakeholder platform "to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels."

HONG KONG, April 12 (Xinhua) -- About 400 enterprises in the Chinese mainland had been selected to participate in the Renminbi cross-border trade settlement pilot program, Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of Hong Kong Julia Leung said here Saturday.     Speaking on a radio talk show here Saturday, Leung said enterprises in Hong Kong would soon be able to settle trades in Renminbi through the banks with the selected companies in the Chinese mainland.     Noting the program can reduce the risks and cost arising from fluctuations in exchange rates, she said Hong Kong banks could expand extensively their Renminbi services from individual clients to enterprises.     When asked whether the scheme includes trade financing, Leung said authorities in the Chinese mainland would announce the details soon.     "The Monetary Authority has made full preparation for the program including conducting tests on the Renminbi clearing system," Leung noted, adding that "the system can start operation once the Chinese mainland comes up with the operational details."     When asked whether the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government would change Hong Kong's linked exchange rate with the U.S. dollar, the under secretary said the system had been working effectively and the HKSAR government had no plan to change it.
