Delta is partnering with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to become the first airline to launch a contact tracing initiative for international travelers arriving in the United States.Beginning Dec. 15, the Atlanta-based carrier will ask all customers to voluntarily provide their contact information for "contact tracing and public health follow-up efforts.""This will give the CDC access to the data in moments, dramatically decreasing the time it takes to notify affected customers via local health departments," Delta said in a press release.Each passenger will need to provide their full name, both a physical and email address, as well as two phone numbers.Once a passenger fills out the form, Delta will securely forward the information to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who will pass it along to the CDC."This will give the CDC access to the data in moments, dramatically decreasing the time it takes to notify affected customers via local health departments," the company said.However, this program will not pertain to the carrier's quarantine-free flight trial to Italy, which Delta announced last week.Through a partnership with the Aeroporti de Roma and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta will have a first-of-its-kind trans-Atlantic COVID-19 testing program.Delta said that participating consumers eligible to travel would be granted an exemption from quarantine restrictions on arrival into Italy. 1448

DALLAS (AP) — The Texas Supreme Court has denied a Republican-led petition to toss nearly 127,000 ballots cast at drive-thru voting places in the Houston area. The state's all-Republican high court on Sunday rejected the request from GOP activists and candidates without explaining its decision. The effort to have the Harris County ballots thrown out is still set to be taken up during an emergency hearing in federal court on Monday. DENVER (KMGH) -- You could call it the very definition of the old expression of being in "the right place at the right time" when several emergency room doctors saved a man's life at a Denver sandwich shop.The doctors happened to be in town for a conference of ER doctors. They were on a lunch break Monday afternoon at Snarf's on Champa when the man walked in and collapsed."He went into cardiac arrest. His heart stopped beating, stopped pumping blood," said Dr. David Levy. Levy was alongside several of his former residents and a pair of emergency physicians from New Jersey, who all jumped into action."We did chest compressions. We shocked him with the [defibrillator]," he explained.The man was without a pulse three separate times, but the team was able to revive it in time for medics to arrive and transport him to the hospital."Everyone expects this to happen in a hospital in a controlled environment, but when you’re there, and it happens on the floor of a restaurant it takes you by surprise," Levy said. "He would have died if no one was there to intervene."As of Monday night, the man had survived the ordeal and was being treated in the intensive care unit.And what did this group of hero doctors do next?"We washed our hands, sat down, and finished our lunch," Levy said.Levy would go on to win three separate awards that night as part of the convention, the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. 1478

DETROIT, Mich. -- The Detroit Police Department is responding to a video that shows an officer fatally shooting a dog in its own yard.Officers say it happened Aug. 3 on the east side of the Michigan city.The video shows the dog in a yard latching onto a police K-9's snout and not letting go. The officer then drew her weapon and shot the dog, which died from its injuries."It's unfortunate that it came to this. We do not like to see any animal hurt, especially these K-9 officers. They are truly dog lovers and champions for K-9s. But at this point, her dog was being severely injured and had no choice," Commander Darin Szilagy said.Detroit police did internally investigate and cleared the officer of any wrongdoing.That K-9 officer continues to be evaluated and treated for injuries.
