SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police say they have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting in the Midway District during a meeting set up on social media.San Diego Police arrested 18-year-old Angel Garcia of San Diego on Wednesday and charged him in the murder of Eduardo Salguero, 18, of San Diego, on Nov. 25.Police say Salguero had arranged to purchase an item through Snapchat and met for the transaction behind several businesses in the 3600 block of Midway Dr. When he arrived, two Hispanic males entered his vehicle. During the meeting, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and the transaction turned into an armed robbery.RELATED: Midway District shooting victim killed during Snapchat transaction, police sayMultiple gunshots were fired inside the vehicle before the two suspects fled. Salguero was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries.Both suspects were described the suspects as Hispanic males, between 20-30 years old, who were wearing dark clothing at the time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than two dozen Little Italy restaurants are likely to become San Diego's first to install "parklets," which will allow expanded outdoor dining each day of the week. The work is expected to start Friday. A parklet is a sealed off portion of curbside parking spaces that would instead be reserved for restaurants to set up tables and serve people outside. On Friday, at least eight Little Italy restaurants will start installing the parklets, but that number could grow to more than 25 if the city approves the permits in time. The city is currently streamlining these kinds of permits for retailers and restaurants and waving fees. The idea is to give businesses more room to make money amid new social distancing restrictions that disallow indoor dining in restaurants. "It is vital, absolutely," said Paolo Tagliani, general manager of Salunto, a bakery restaurant on India Street. "We need fresh air, too."More than 100 restaurants in San Diego have applied for parklet permits. The city approved 48 of them on the first day it began processing the applications. Restaurants in the Gaslamp and North Park have also applied. Little Italy had already instituted an Al Fresco program, which closed India Street to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to allow outside dining. The parklets would allow outdoor dining daily. The Gaslamp Quarter Association has a similar program on Fifth Avenue from L Street to F Street. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect who shot a man in City Heights Wednesday afternoon.According to San Diego Police, the man was shot in the back at the intersection of Fairmont Avenue and Thorn Street near Clark Middle School and Manzanita Canyon.The shooter left the area with two other men, according to San Diego Police officer Billy Hernandez. The three were described as Asian men, one in a white shirt with the letters "SD" on it in red printing, the others in black shirts, Hernandez said.Police shut down traffic near the shooting scene and searched the area with a helicopter and ground crews. Officers found a gun possibly connected to the case in an alley. There was no sign of the shooter.Paramedics took the shooting victim to the hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Monday places of worship in San Diego had a unified message, telling believers not to fear.The Pittsburgh shooting at Tree of Life killed 11, and the pain was felt across the country. On Sunday at Beth Israel parents brought their children for religious classes and spoke about the massacre, "their utter dismay, sadness, shock at the horrible terror in Pittsburgh," Rabbi Michael Berk of Beth Israel said.He says Jews have faced persecution for hundreds of years, that's why their synagogue is housed inside a tall fence, with a guard shack out front and security cameras dotting the campus."This is a house of worship, but we have to have security here, all the time that we're here, and Jewish organizations have to do that and look at Israel what it has to do to keep secure," Berk said.In Liberty Station, Safety Director for Rock Church Mike Diggs says they've had dozens of threats over the past decade, from bombings to an active shooter, "threats of people burning the church down, threats of people filling many body bags.""We should not let any threat take our joy away or our ability to worship away," Diggs said.Many sanctuaries spoke with their congregations over the weekend on their security procedures in place and what heightened security they have currently."Leaders of the congregation especially, all the staff that works here, the religious school people, personnel and faculty, we are all given training from time to time," Berk said."Even though they may not be able to see that we're doing some things, some things they may notice, some things they may not, but us as an organization are taking potential threats seriously and taking steps and actions to be proactive," Diggs said there are personnel with firearms during service to protect the congregation.Rock Church has an annual Safety and Security Conference that anyone can attend. Their security team also goes to other churches to educate them on what they can do."When bad things have happened we have never presumed that God is done with us... We cling to hope, we clean ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and we put one foot in front of the other, and we keep on going... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police responded Monday after a vehicle crashed into a Chick-fil-A in Mira Mesa.The crash happened on the 10700 block of Camino Ruiz near Mira Mesa Community Park. Authorities say no one was injured.Due to the crash, the inside of the restaurant was closed for the day as a structural engineer inspected the damage. Authorities haven't said what caused the crash.  407
