PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police in Portland, Oregon, declared a riot as protesters demonstrated outside a law enforcement building early Sunday, continuing a nightly ritual in the city. Officers used crowd-control munitions including smoke to disperse the gathering outside the Penumbra Kelly building. Police said protesters had thrown "softball size" rocks, glass bottles and other objects at officers. Police also reported vandalism at the building. The actions came after what started as a peaceful protest late Saturday. Violence had erupted earlier Saturday afternoon when a small group of far-right demonstrators traded paintballs and pepper spray with counter-protesters. 684

(KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies Saturday were investigating a homicide at a North County apartment complex.Sheriff's deputies responded to the Sofi apartment complex on Midland Rd. at about 1:45 a.m., deputies said.Early Saturday morning, the San Diego Sheriff's Department received a call from Pomerado Hospital in Poway of a man who was brought in with a gunshot wound. Just after 3:00 a.m, Michael Walker died at the hospital.10News spoke to a neighbor, Christine Zobel. She was woken up at around 1:45 am after hearing commotion upstairs. "There was an altercation in the apartment on top of my children's room, and there was a gunshot that went through the wall and killed a man that was sleeping," Zobel said. Minutes after the shooting, Zobel saw Walker's wife drive him to the hospital. But he did not make it. "That could've gone through the floor and into my kids' room, or anybody around us could've been affected from this reckless event," Zobel said. Saturday afternoon, Sheriff's Homicide detectives arrested Manuula Save for murder. The investigation is ongoing. (KGTV) - Students in Poway are trading their notebooks and pencils for needles and thread, as they make teddy bears this holiday season."This is hands on," says 5th Grade teacher Kimberlee Rizzuti. "They're making something. Some of these kids have never held a needle and thread."The 5th Graders at Painted Rock Elementary School do every part of the bear-building by hand, from drawing and cutting patterns to stuffing the bears. Parents help with the sewing machines in class."It's pretty hard, but it's fun to do," says 5th Grader Deacon Tilley.It's a project the school has done for about 35 years. The classes make about 100 bears total, all of which get donated to Interfaith Services of Escondido."We've kind of gotten away from hand made things," says Rizzuti. "This is more of a gift from the heart.""It makes me feel happy because some people don't get a lot of things for Christmas," says 5th Grader Bella Lesagonicz. President Donald Trump called Attorney General Jeff Sessions an "idiot" to his face and said he should resign in May, The New York Times reported Thursday.Sessions, an advocate for hardline policies on immigration and criminal justice, ultimately stayed on despite the humiliating Oval Office session with Trump, the Times reported, citing current and former administration officials as well as others briefed.Trump berated Sessions, the Times said, during a May 17 meeting with his top advisers to consider replacements for former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump had fired earlier that month. During the meeting, White House counsel Don McGahn received a call from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, where he learned Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel for the investigation into potential coordination between Trump's associates and Russia to influence the 2016 election.The Times report said Trump lashed out in response to that news.A source told CNN in June that Sessions offered to resign following a series of heated exchanges with the President. At the time, the White House declined to say Trump had confidence in Sessions.
