Amazon’s dizzying push to expand Alexa’s capabilities has grown the number of people working on it to more than 5,000, with close to 1,100 open positions. Third-party developers are hard at work as well, and Alexa has amassed more than 25,000 “skills.”
Among the 2,189 billionaires identified by UBS and consultancy PwC by the end of July, 415 were from China. This represents a historical high reading that makes the country second only to the United States in terms of the number of people whose assets are worth at least billion.

Amazon’s headline-grabbing million contribution last month is the most visible symbol of tech’s involvement in the election — but it’s hardly the only one. Tech leaders and business advocacy groups are throwing considerable financial weight behind candidates and initiatives that they hope will change the direction of Seattle’s government.
Amazon’s latest contribution makes it the largest political donor in Seattle elections this year by far.
