(KGTV) -- A man from Louisiana died after proposing to his girlfriend underwater during a vacation to Tanzania, CNN reports. Steven Weber and Kenesha Antoine were staying in a wooden cabin with a bedroom submerged beneath the surface of the water off the east coast of Africa when the incident occurred. According to CNN, Weber proposed Thursday by swimming underwater, holding a handwritten note against one of the bedrooms windows. "I can't hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. BUT...Everything I love about you I love more EVERY DAY,” the note read in part. Weber then failed to return to the surface, Antoine wrote in a post on Facebook. "You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, 'Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!' " she wrote. The resort the couple was staying in confirmed the death in a statement Saturday. 903

(KGTV) - In her new book, Elizabeth Smart says the man who kidnapped her also tried to kidnap a girl in El Cajon, California by posing as Mormon and befriending the girl’s family, according to People Magazine.Smart detailed Brian David Mitchell’s alleged plan in When There’s Hope: Healing, Moving Forward, and Never Giving Up. The book includes information about Smart’s abduction in 2002, when she was 14 years old. Smart was held captive by Mitchell and Wanda Barzee for nine months. Before Smart’s kidnapping, Mitchell deliberately went to a Mormon church in East County to find a girl to victimize, Smart wrote. He eventually saw a photo of a girl on a family’s piano, she said.Smart did not indicate which Latter-Day Saints church Mitchell may have attended. The girl's identity was not made public.“That was all it took for him to decide that this young girl would be his next victim,” Smart alleged in the book.Smart wrote that Mitchell met the girl at a family dinner and returned to the riverbed where he, Barzee, and Smart were living. Mitchell planned to return to the home and “rescue” the girl, which Smart wrote actually meant kidnap and rape.Mitchell left the campsite wearing the same dark clothing and carrying the same knife he used to kidnap Smart, she wrote. Smart claimed Mitchell opened the door to the home but heard a man snoring and left.“I know most people consider snoring a health risk or an annoyance,” Smart writes. “But in the case of this young girl, it saved her life.”Smart, now 30 years old, is an author and motivational speaker. She has two children with her husband. The claim is not the first link to the San Diego area. A local woman snapped photos of Smart with her captors in Lakeside back in October of 2002. It was only months later that the woman said she realized just who she had photographed.Smart was held for five out of her nine months captive in Lakeside. 1929

(KGTV) — California is taking its time before issuing guidance to allow the state's theme parks to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state was not planning to issue such guidance soon, despite reports last week that rules that would allow the shuttered locations to reopen would be issued soon.Disney Chairman Bob Iger recently left the state's economic recovery task force, an early indication that business leaders for the industry could be at odds with the state over reopening. According to the Associated Press, Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association, said amusement park leaders wanted changes to a proposed draft they reviewed this month."There’s disagreements in terms of opening a major theme park. We’re going to let science and data make that determination," Newsom said, adding that he wasn't "surprised at all" that Iger left.Newsom said the state is continuing to work with the industry and would approach theme parks with a "health-first" framework, but was not in a hurry to release rules."We are going to be led by a health-first framework and we’re going to be stubborn about it," Newsom said. "That’s our commitment — that’s our resolve. We feel there’s no hurry putting out guidelines."He added that working to put out appropriate rules would depend on local data."It’s very complex. These are like small cities, small communities, small towns. But we don’t anticipate, in the immediate term, any of these larger theme parks opening until we see more stability in terms of the data," Newsom said.California's major theme parks — including Disneyland, Universal Studios, SeaWorld San Diego, Legoland, Knott's Berry Farm, and several smaller theme parks around the state — have been closed since about mid-March due to the pandemic.Last week, Disney announced 28,000 employees would be laid off as the company struggles with the economic impacts of having its parks closed or under capacity limits. 2014

According to the Associated Press, a witness said Hutchings appeared to be eating much faster than the other two contestants, swallowing tacos without chewing them. The witness added that Hutchings collapsed about seven minutes into the contest and hit his face on the table as he fell to the ground, the AP said.A cause of death has not been released. Fresno sheriff's spokesman Tony Botti told reporters an autopsy will be performed Wednesday. Botti added that paramedics had to clear Hutchings' airway of food when he was transported, but it wasn't clear how many he had eaten.According to the AP, the Grizzlies has canceled the World Taco Eating Championship scheduled for Saturday at the annual Taco Truck Throwdown. Tuesday's contest, however, was not related to the championship event. 1250
