Reports indicate that Toys R Us could be the next retailer to file for bankruptcy.The Wall Street Journal reports that the toy retailer could file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the next few weeks, just a few months out from the crucial holiday season.According to the Journal, the chain's suppliers are hesitant to ship new items before putting money down. The company is facing a debt of billion stemming from a leveraged buyout in 2005.Toys R Us has already received most of its holiday shipments, but could soon be prevented from receiving any additional toys before the shopping season begins.Toys R Us is just one of a number of retailers who have struggled as Americans have started doing more of their shopping online. Retailers across the country have a new marketing theme this summer: Turn your backyard into a vacation haven. It seems most families agree as playground and trampoline retailers have been selling out of stock."It’s just been a huge surge in sales and for everything we sell. Almost like a frenzy, in a sense," says Pete DeLois. DeLois owns Recreations Outlet in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. He says their sales in April doubled their previous highest month."The most we’ve ever sold in any one month is little over 100. I mean, we sold 140 by the time we’d gotten through two weeks in April," DeLois said. Since Recreations Outlet pre-orders their equipment ahead of the spring and summer season, their inventory of playgrounds and trampolines quickly ran dry. DeLois put customers on a waiting list for up to 14 weeks."I also think some of the money they had maybe was allocated for vacations," says DeLois.Recreation Outlet shares space with a gymnastics facility which had to shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. DeLois says many parents can spend upwards of 0 a month in gymnastics classes and are likely looking for a physical outlet for their kids."There isn’t anything in our product mix that they’re not looking for. We sell basketball goals, play sets, trampolines, they all are good solutions for getting the kids outside the house and away from inside the house. I’m sure parents are interested in kids getting fresh air but every one of them have been a mad dash," says DeLois.Pete is supposed to get another 40 trampolines in next week and says they'll be gone within two days. Even entry-level playgrounds are sold out. They usually aren't."I've been doing this for 30 years. With a seasonal business it’s always a challenge when you're in that season because you end up doing-- in this industry you do about 70% in a five to six month window but we‘re prepared for it because we’ve done it over and over again. But we weren’t prepared for this," says DeLois.Not prepared, but grateful that his business is doing well and helping families turn their backyards into a fun place to vacation at home this summer. 2141

Protests in response to the death of Stephon Clark, a 22-year-old who was shot and killed by Sacramento Police on Sunday after officers confused his cellphone for a gun, caused major disruptions in Sacramento on Thursday. Most fans were unable to enter the Sacramento Kings' NBA match against the Atlanta Hawks despite a delay in the game. Protesters locked arms around the arena's gates, prohibiting fans from reaching the doors. As the game tipped off Thursday evening, only the first few rows of seats were full in the arena that seats nearly 20,000 fans. "Tonight's game began with a delay," the Kings said in a statement. "Due to law enforcement being unable to ensure ticketed fans could safely enter the arena, the arena remains closed and we ask fans outside to travel home. We will issue further information soon regarding a refund."Some fans left the area outside the arena disappointed. "I"m very disappointed," Fermin Rodriguez told the Sacramento Bee, as he was planning on seeing the game with his wife and four children. "I mean I feel their pain, but why do we have to suffer as well? We paid a lot of money for these tickets. Within seconds, officers fired 20 rounds at Clark, killing him. "Prior to the shooting, the involved officers saw the suspect facing them, advance forward with his arms extended, and holding an object in his hands," Sacramento Police said in a statement. "At the time of the shooting, the officers believed the suspect was pointing a firearm at them. After an exhaustive search, scene investigators did not locate any firearms. Renowned Tulsa saxophonist and Race Massacre survivor, Hal Singer, has passed away, just a few months shy of his 101st birthday.The French city of Chatou announced the news of his death. Singer resided in the town for more than 20 years."Weakened in recent years, Hal Singer has passed out peacefully surrounded by his wife and family," the release stated.Singer, who was born in Tulsa on Oct. 8, 1919, would go on to have an "exceptional 70-year career, from Duke Ellington to Ray Charles, to Billie Holiday," the release said.According to the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame website, Singer topped the R&B charts in Sept. 1948 with his instrumental recording "Corn Bread.""The City just lost a friend, an artist, and a great man," the release concluded.
