SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The first drivable, life-size LEGO Technic car will be on display through the holidays at Legoland California.The model featuring the Bugatti Chiron weighs one and a half tons and is a 1:1 replica of the world's fastest supercar. It took Lego builders more than 13,000 hours and more than 1 million Lego Technic pieces to recreate and assemble the car's sleek design and lines.While the actual Chiron can reach a record-setting top speed of 304 mph, this version can travel up to about 18 mph, according to the park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The former Imperial Beach man convicted of molesting and strangling two young boys in 1993 has died of coronavirus, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said. Scott Thomas Erskine, 57, was sentenced to death in San Diego County in 2004 for the first-degree murders of 9-year-old Jonathan Sellers and 13-year-old Charles Keever.The California Department of Corrections said Erskine died from complications due to the virus at an outside hospital. He was on death row at San Quentin. Both Sellers and Keever disappeared while on a bicycle ride near their South Bay homes. Erskine lured the victims to an igloo-shaped “fort” of brush before molesting and strangling them.In March of 2001, Erskine was serving a 70-year sentence for raping a San Diego woman when newly-tested DNA linked him to the murder of the boys.Erskine also pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder for the Florida slaying of 26-year-old Renee Baker. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The magic of the holiday classic "The Nutcracker" couldn't be stopped, even by a pandemic, as the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet has figured out a way for the show to go on.We're used to seeing this ballet with its lavish sets on an indoor stage with dancers close together, but this season things will look different because the virtual show will be outside with dancers wearing masks and distancing.Lucia del Rio stars as Clara and says, "I'm just really excited to be doing it at all. It's like in the beginning it was kind of hard to see how it was going to work especially since we were on Zoom. The most exciting part for me is being around everyone even if we have our masks on."The 9th grader from Academy of Our Lady of Peace says while they have had two in-person rehearsals following safety precautions, most rehearsals have been from home alone via Zoom."It's just very tough.. My floor is not good, my floor is very slippery." San Diego Civic Youth Ballet Artistic Director Danika Pramik-Holdaway has been on the other end of those Zoom rehearsals and says they've all had to overcome a few obstacles."Knowing who they stand next to, who they go behind, how they go in their direct order, when you're on Zoom at home by yourself that's very very challenging," says Pramik-Holdaway.But the students were up to the task and with hard work, Lucia and the other dancers have been able to turn lonely Zoom rehearsals into something special. The small group performance outside the Casa del Prado Theater will be recorded so people can watch online. It will be a simplified, shorter version of The Nutcracker, but the beloved scenes will still be there. Lucia says, "It's really really special. It's kind of a gift to be able to dance with people in the holiday season, so I'm really excited about that."Not to mention a virtual trip to see the Sugar Plum Fairy could yield a sweet reward --- more viewers than usual. Pramik-Holdaway says, "I'm sure we'll have definitely a lot of grandparents, who don't live here in San Diego, get to see their grandkids dance."They both agree that holding onto cherished traditions like this one, even if they have to be adapted, is something we need right now."Since we're in Balboa Park we have people walking through the park and everyone stops by and says, 'Oh, the Nutcracker!' They hear the music and I think it makes everyone feel like things are going to be okay again," says Pramik-Holdaway.SDCYB is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and ticket sales help keep this nonprofit going. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The growing concerns over the coronavirus are impacting the daily routines of people across San Diego. Some businesses are changing the way they do things. CorePower Yoga has dozens of studios across San Diego. Monday morning, the company sent an email to its staff and clients outlining several precautions. Chloe Delehanti works out at the Mission Valley location."I've lived through SARS and Swine Flu, and I don't remember it being this serious of a concern, certainly never getting emails from my gym, or travel alerts, so it's definitely concerning," said Delehanti. The email stated the company is increasing its cleaning protocols and reducing the use of props and physical contact between teachers and clients. "Obviously, I really like adjustments and having that component in class, but I think it's a good idea to be as safe as possible, considering that it is a really growing concern, and there's a lot of new cases," said Delehanti.A salon in Hillcrest is also changing the way it does business. Stylists at Brightside Barber will now have the option of turning away customers who appear sick. "From here on out, not to feel like you can't turn someone away, if they are visibly sick with a fever, coughing," said Angelic Corona. She's been in the business ten years and said she's never seen anything like this. "I was relieved, cause you know, in customer service, it's kind of always been the customer is always right, but in this scenario it's health and safety for everyone," said Corona. A few doors down at Ralphs, shoppers, like Tyler Armstrong, were stocking up on cleaning supplies.
