(CNN) — California utility giant Pacific Gas and Electric has agreed to pay .5 billion to individuals affected by several recent fires in the state, the company announced Friday night.The agreement still has to be approved by a bankruptcy court. PG&E has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which allows for restructuring.The claims stem from the 2015 Butte Fire, the 2017 Northern California fires, the 2018 Camp Fire, as well as the fire at Oakland's Ghost Ship warehouse in 2016.RELATED: California to protect insurance policies in wildfire areas"From the beginning of the Chapter 11 process, getting wildfire victims fairly compensated, especially the individuals, has been our primary goal," CEO and PG&E President Bill Johnson said. "We want to help our customers, our neighbors and our friends in those impacted areas recover and rebuild after these tragic wildfires."PG&E has previously settled claims with insurance companies for billion and local governments for billion.Equipment linked to deadly firesThe company has been criticized for the role its equipment has played in the outbreak of numerous fires in California, among them the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history.An investigation by the California Public Utilities Commission's Safety and Enforcement Division (SED) concluded that the company's equipment helped lead to last November's Camp Fire, which killed 85 people.The report pointed specifically to inadequate maintenance and inspection of transmission line towers. PG&E conceded that a part separated from a transmission-line tower, likely starting the fire in dry vegetation near the town of Pulga. Inspections would have identified wear that would have warranted a close climbing inspection, the report said, but PG&E's records do not show a climbing inspection of that tower in at least 17 years.RELATED: Cal Fire: Acres burned across the state is much lower in 2019 than 2018"We remain deeply sorry about the role our equipment had in this tragedy, and we apologize to all those impacted by the devastating Camp Fire," the company said in a statement responding to the report. "PG&E's most important responsibility must always be public and employee safety, and we remain focused on helping affected communities recover and rebuild, resolving wildfire victims' claims fairly and expeditiously, and further reducing wildfire risks."Recently, PG&E has tried to avoid causing fires by cutting power to its customers during particularly dry and windy periods.Fires push company to bankruptcyPG&E filed for bankruptcy in January to shed some of its debt and pay for damages and stay in business. The company cited at least billion in claims from the Camp Fire.If the utility does not pull itself out of bankruptcy, California Gov. If they cannot, we are not going to sit around and be passive," Newsom said. Dalloul is a poultry immunologist who sequenced the turkey genome.The National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate will join Peas and Carrots, last year's pardoned birds. Earlier lucky cluckers Wishbone and Drumstick, plus Tater and Tot, died at Gobblers Rest of natural causes.The school says the two birds are chosen based on appearance and temperament, then sent to a hotel near the White House for media events. (KGTV) - Upset parents are scrambling after the owner of a beloved preschool and daycare says she will be forced to shut down in a few weeks. ?18-month-old Merrick lights up when he goes to his daycare. More than a year ago, Brie Way enrolled her son at Intelli Children, both a daycare and preschool."It's not just a place. It's a home for kids," said Way.The home for more than 70 kids could soon be closing its doors."I feel sad for the children, parents and staff," said Carol Wilson, owner and director of Intelli Chidren.Ceiling stains in many of the classrooms mark the problem. Wilson says the leaky roof she noticed when she moved in eight years ago turned into big problem with this winter's rains, when several floods for them to cause of several occasions. According to Wilson, walls had to be cut out in most of the classrooms. Wilson says after the landlord declined the necessary repairs, she paid for the repairs so she could stay open. She then stopped paying rent early this year."The business was not viable anymore," said Wilson.She says negotiations stalled when her landlord declined a permanent fix and told her she had to close the school in early August. For Way, a single mom, panic is setting in. Affordable, quality child care is hard to find and she fears she'll be in the same boat she was a year ago."I called from Escondido to Oceanside, and found myself on 30 waiting lists ... It needs to stay open. There aren't a lot of good schools like this in the area. It would devastate the community I believe," said Wilson. The landlord declined comment, contending 'eight months of back rent' are still owed him. Wilson says it's closer to five months and she's willing to pay it if the repairs are done.Wilson says she and her husband are at retirement age and would not be opening the school at a new location. 10news has learned someone has stepped forward and expressed interested in taking over the school. Now, it's being used on prospective employers when new hires don't show up for their first day of work.Liz Blondy has roughly 80 employees covering her various K-9 to 5 pet care locations and says she's fallen victim to a trend of ghosting. "It's strange because it’s like where did they go?" Blondy said.Experts say part of the reason for the sudden disappearing act is actually good news: a stronger economy. "There’s more jobs for people so they have more options, they have more choices," Blondy said. However, the toll the trend takes on those who get ghosted is more than just the equivalent of an emotional rollercoaster. "A lot of these candidates we get really excited about, so to have them not show up can be disappointing and also expensive," Blondy said. "We start with the group interview, we have them come back to do a work assessment. the HR person spends time creating a schedule, the onboarding…we’ve already spent a couple of hundred dollars before they even walk in the door their first day." 1166
