BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) - China's urbanization would boost domestic demand by 30 trillion yuan (4.5 trillion U.S. dollars) by 2030, an official from a top think tank said Saturday.The country's urbanization expansion promises a huge potential in domestic demand, which will assure a stable economic development for China even if exports decline, Han Jun, vice director with the State Council's Development Research Center (SCDRC), said at a forum, adding that the urban migrants' demand for housing is likely to become the largest driving force for China's economic growth in the future.Additionally, Han noted that the core issue in China's urbanization is to allow farmers-turned-migrant workers to become permanent urban residents.In the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Proposal for Formulating the 12th Five-Year Program for China's Economic and Social Development (2011-2015), which was issued last month, authorities stressed that accelerating urbanization would be an important mission during the next five years.Data from the SCDRC indicates that China's urbanization rate hit 46 percent by the end of 2009, and will reach 63.6 percent by 2030, with the urban population standing at 930 million.

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- China will carry out the House Sale Price Statistical Scheme in 2011, after soliciting opinions via the internet earlier this year, said Ma Jiantang, head of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday.Ma made the remarks at a national statistics work conference, saying the bureau had accepted suggestions from various departments and experts and would work steadily reform the method of calculating the country's house sale prices in 2011."We'll further work with real estate departments, make full use of their network data, and check the authenticity of the data to further push forward the statistical scheme reform," Ma said.The NBS was committed to improve the scheme at the beginning of the year. It released the draft plan on September 25, which said prices, floor areas, and sales of newly-constructed houses in 35 major cities would be based upon data from local real estate departments, instead of independent research.Ma said that the bureau is working on 4 key systems, including building a database for basic surveyed units, one set of standards for surveyed enterprises, data collecting and processing software systems, and direct reporting network systems."The four systems are aimed to guarantee the authenticity, integrity and timeliness of the data," he said.By 2012, above-scale enterprises, above-norm wholesale and retail accommodations and catering businesses, construction enterprises, and real estate enterprises will be able to submit their data directly to a national data center, said the NBS.Also, about 550 cities across the country will use personal digital assistants (PDA) to collect data for the consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, as well as farm produce prices, by the end of 2012, the NBS said. 

BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, attended a ground-breaking ceremony for construction of Beijing Hyundai Motor's third auto plant in Shunyi District in suburban Beijing Sunday. Prior to the ceremony, Jia met with Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Mong-koo and other guests. China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have been upgrading relations, as well as political and cultural exchanges, since the forging of diplomatic ties in 1992, Jia noted.Trade between the two countries topped 150 billion U.S. dollars during January-September this year, up 36.7 percent year on year. BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) on Friday moved to overhaul the supervision over country's dairy products in a bid to ensure food safety before the major Chinese festivals.Local food and drug administrations have been ordered to increase supervision over the trade and consumption of diary products and ensure that dairy products are not mixed with non-edible substances or food additives,read a notice posted on the SFDA's website.The SFDA asked restaurants to keep dairy product suppliers' contact information as well as valid documents which could help authorities identify the quality, specifications and expiration date of dairy products.Year-end is always a peak season for the Chinese to dine out, either with families or colleagues. The Spring Festival, or the Chinese lunar new year and the most important festival for the Chinese, falls on February 3.China's dairy industry was marred by a scandal in 2008, in which at least six infants died and almost 300,000 became ill across the country after consuming dairy products tainted with the industrial chemical melamine.To restore consumer confidence, the Chinese government launched a nationwide safety overhaul of dairy products in November 2008.

AMMAN, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and China on Saturday signed an economic and technical cooperation agreement under which China provides the Arab kingdom with 4.5 million U.S. dollars to implement development projects.The agreement was signed by Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafar Hassan and China's Deputy Minister of Commerce Chen Jian, who was in Jordan for an official visit.Hassan commended the bilateral distinguished tie, voicing thanking and appreciation for the grant from the Chinese government, according to a statement issued by the ministry.The minister stressed Jordan' keenness to develop ties with China, adding that the bilateral ties witness distinguished development in all political, economic and cultural fields.The minister added that the signing of the agreement represents the two countries' keenness to foster bilateral ties in different fields, especially in light of current regional and international circumstances.The Chinese official expressed China's commitment to continue to provide technical and financial support to Jordan in different fields.According to the ministry, China's support to Jordan in loans and grants from 2009 to2010 stood at 119.5 million U.S. dollars.
