SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego International Airport spokesperson said Wednesday a reported paging that went viral was made by mistake.Video on Twitter claimed to show San Diego Airport's messaging system announce a page for "Epstein Coverup" on a digital display. The text read: "Airport is paging Epstein Coverup please meet your party at terminal two east by American Airlines."An airport spokesperson told 10News that the message was a mistake, and steps were "being taken to avoid such mistakes in the future."RELATED: Travel website ranks San Diego International as best airport in the US"San Diego International Airport’s paging system is a vital communications resource for airport users in a sometimes busy, hectic environment. Airport users depend on this system to reach loved ones or receive notifications in a timely manner. In this instance, our employee made a mistake. Steps are being taken to avoid such mistakes in the future," the statement read.Earlier Tuesday, a video was posted online of ABC anchor Amy Robach venting about how an interview with Jeffrey Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre never aired. The clip shows Robach ranting about how the story, shot in 2015, was handled.RELATED: Travel website ranks San Diego International as best airport in the USABC said Tuesday that the interview didn't meet its standards because it lacked sufficient corroborating evidence, denying outside pressure had anything to do with the decision. In response, social media users started spreading the "Epstein Coverup" hashtag online.Epstein was found dead in his jail cell in August. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging by the New York medical examiner. 1676

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A New York-based pastor who was placed on a government watchlist after traveling to Tijuana to work with migrants is suing the federal government. Kaji Dousa is the senior pastor at Park Avenue Christian Church in New York and a member of the New Sanctuary Coalition, which works with immigrant communities. She had also been the senior pastor at the Table United Church of Christ in La Mesa for several years until 2016.According to a federal complaint, in November, Dousa started traveling to Tijuana as migrants from caravans continued filling the churches and shelters of the border city.“What I do is I go and meet and pray with people. I listen to them. I offer all the gifts of pastoral office,” said Dousa. She traveled multiple times across the border until January, when she was stopped by border agents and taken into a secondary screening area.According to the complaint, a Customs and Border Protection officer interrogated her, at one point asking “about Pastor Dousa’s assistance to asylum seekers and whether she encouraged them to lie in asylum applications.”Dousa denied the claims, but explained “that sometimes during her ministry she assisted asylum seekers, many of whom speak no English, in explaining what caused them to flee their homes,” according to the complaint. 1316

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new pilot program in San Diego hopes to break the barrier between older adults and ridesharing apps. Together, Jewish Family Service (JFS) and the Ed Brown Center are testing an outreach and education program connecting older adults with free ridesharing services so they can participate in health and wellness programs. The pilot program is part of a partnership with Lyft and the National Council on Aging (NCOA). The Ed Brown Center was one of three senior centers selected from across the country. The goal is to understand whether ridesharing can improve an older adult’s well-being by enabling them to travel to their local senior center to take part in activities such as health classes, nutrition programs, lifelong learning, and social opportunities.JFS partnered with Lyft two years ago to provide rides to seniors and individuals receiving breast cancer treatment. Called “On the Go: Navigator,” the program allows older adults to easily book rides to the grocery store, doctor’s appointments and more, without a smartphone. With this service, seniors must pay for the trip, as well as a service fee. San Diego seniors over the age of 60 can request a free Lyft ride to the Ed Brown Center:(858) 637-3210Monday through Friday7 a.m. - 7 p.m.Yoga, bingo, tai chi, and painting are among the activities offered at the center. 1364

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Fire-Rescue chaplain found himself in need after flames ripped through his apartment in Old Town.Father David Fucci was with a friend last Thursday night when he got a call."My neighbor calls and says, 'Your apartment is on fire'," said Father Fucci. As he raced home, a mix of feelings washed over him. For about seven years, he's served as a volunteer chaplain, consoling victims during tragedy."That night, it felt surreal. Almost like an out-of-body experience. Normally I'm the one driving to the scene, thinking about what I can say," said Father Fucci.Instead, he could only watch as flames claimed his home. "Just kept thinking, don't let it spread to any other apartments and thankfully, it didn't," said Father Fucci. Then, something remarkable happened. As word spread of whose apartment it was, some familiar faces began appearing, including five other volunteer chaplains and a battalion chief."They took the time to put a hand on my shoulders. I knew I was blessed," said Father Fucci.Father Fucci found himself the person receiving comfort. "Sometimes those that give, it's hard to receive ... the compassion, love and help. You learn to let go," said Father Fucci. In the end, the apartment was declared a total loss. Amid the ashes, Father Fucci found something that survived."I found a picture of Mom and Dad. Last picture of them. They died a year later," said Father Fucci. He also discovered something else. He calls it a blessing born from his loss: a perspective that will allow him to better help others at the next scene."Now you have a greater understanding of what they need," said Father Fucci.Father Fucci did not have renters insurance. He tells us the cause is accidental, but the exact cause hasn't been determined.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help him with expenses. 1844

San Diego (KGTV) -- A local enterprise center for at-risk teens in City Heights is doing what they can to help those struggling during the pandemic. Their weekly food distribution is serving hundreds of people. The Union of Pan Asian Communities, also known as UPAC, works with at-risk teens in the City Heights community. The organization strives to lead the teens on a successful path.“We provide all the mentorship and guidance that we can for these kids to follow the right tracks but employment is such a critical feature,” says Director Dante Dauz.In 2018, the Enterprise Center was created to help the teens gain employment and entrepreneurial skills. The center consists of the “Neighborhood Cafe,” a commercial kitchen, print shop and technology center.“They are prepared to open up their own business,” says Dauz. “They’ve been instructed from top to bottom about what licenses they need, business formation, marketing plan.”When the pandemic hit, Dauz says many people in the City Heights area were in need of food.“This community was already experiencing challenges and barriers before COVID-19 hit.”UPAC distributes 6,000 pounds of food through care boxes every Friday.“In addition to the distribution boxes our cafe also pumps out roughly 1,000 hot meals for the families.”Dauz says the teens serving the families not only get a chance to better their professional skills but also give back to the City Heights community they love.“Food for the next few days isn’t going to solve all their problems but, its definitely going to help,” says Dauz. “We take a lot of pride in being able to do that.”The organization says to ensure there is enough for everyone, they encourage people to call and reserve a donation box ahead of time. 1750
