SEATTLE (AP) — Cookware and kitchen chain Sur La Table is closing 56 of its 121 stores as it seeks bankruptcy protection, the latest retail casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. The privately-held Seattle-based company says it has agreed to sell its remaining stores to affiliates of Fortress Investment Group following the bankruptcy procedure and store closures. “This sale process will result in a revitalized Sur La Table, positioned to thrive in a post-COVID-19 retail environment," CEO Jason Goldberger said in the press release. "Sur La Table will have a balance sheet and retail footprint optimized to position the Company for a bright future that continues our nearly 50-year tradition of offering high-quality cooking products and experiences to our customers.”The post-sale company will also include its in-person and online cooking classes and its e-commerce business. SAN MARCOS (CNS) - A man who reported his car stolen in San Marcos earlier this week caught a lucky break when he spotted his car in the same area today with the suspected thief inside -- but the suspect left before police were able to apprehend him.The man called law enforcement Wednesday morning to report his car had been taken from his apartment complex on Smilax Road near state Route 78, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Perkins.Around 9 a.m. Sunday, the man called the Sheriff's Department and told deputies he had seen his car parked nearby with an unknown man inside it, Perkins said.The man reported seeing the suspect get out of his car and walk away. Deputies searched the area and detained a possible suspect, but it was determined he hadn't been involved in the crime, Perkins said.The suspected car thief remained at large. 863

(KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies are investigating a possible threat made against West Hills High School late Monday.In a letter to parents, West Hills Principal Robin Ballarin said staff was made aware of the threat Monday concerning a student remark that referenced a possible act of violence.The 15-year-old student has been identified, school officials say.No weapon or written threats were found in connection with the student, deputies said.The remark was reportedly made during class at 10:30 a.m., according to deputies, who called the comment "generic." (KGTV) - A Santee family believes their loved one was among the four people killed by mysterious blue pills last week. “That’s the biggest thing is, I’m pissed somebody is out there doing this,” said Dan Steele, the stepfather of Casey Force. Force, 39, said goodbye to his mother as she left for work Wednesday night. The next morning, Force’s three sons woke up and found him dead in his bed. Steele said the family hasn’t received an official cause of death, but deputies told him blue pills were found in the bedroom. SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Tuesday for help in identifying and locating a man suspected of starting a vegetation fire near a San Marcos place of worship last week.The blaze happened shortly before 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 10, at 1111 La Moree Road, south of state Route 78, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The fire burned roughly 100 square feet of vegetation near a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, but firefighters extinguished the flames before any buildings were damaged, officials said.Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and nearby surveillance cameras captured video and images of the suspect, described as a white man riding a mountain bike and carrying a brown backpack.
