SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while on Interstate 5 late Sunday.The pedestrian was on southbound I-5, just north of Cesar E Chavez Parkway, just before 11 p.m. when a vehicle struck and killed the person, according to the California Highway Patrol.Several vehicles hit the person after the initial crash, CHP added.CHP said it's unclear why the person was on the freeway and whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.I-5 was closed between Cesar Chavez Parkway and Logan Avenue while CHP investigators responded. The collision was under investigation as of Monday. 623

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man and a woman were struck by a trolley while riding scooters in Sherman Heights Tuesday night, according to police. According to authorities, the incident happened at 24th and Commercial Street just before 6:30 p.m. Police say the pair were riding Bird scooters west in between two sets of tracks. When a trolley came up behind they pair, they bumped into the side of one of the trolley cars. Both were taken to the hospital. Emergency crews said the woman only suffered minor injuries while the man had "more severe" injuries.  585

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local contractor is facing criminal charges for allegedly taking customers money and doing little to no work.On Monday Stephen Hage Jr. plead not guilty to charges ranging from grand theft to improper home improvement contract procedures.According to the prosecutor Hage allegedly took down payments on home improvement contracts, and after getting the money disappeared after performing little to no work.In November, a Team 10 investigation discovered some customers who said they signed a contract with American Pride Enterprises, paid thousands of dollars up front and were left with little or nothing. James Francois said he paid Hage more than ,000 for a patio.“He never showed up, never delivered any material, never did an hour of work,” Francois told 10News in November.The Contractors State License Board revoked American Pride Enterprises' license for non-compliance with an arbitration award in July of 2018.After the hearing Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin asked Hage if he had a comment about the allegations. Hage’s attorney said they had no comment. Hage is scheduled to be back in court in May. 1144

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A lawsuit was filed on Monday in San Diego County Superior Court against the County of San Diego, Registrar of Voters and other entities related to the ongoing battle over the future of the Julian volunteer fire department. Attorney and mayoral candidate Cory Briggs filed the suit and told 10News that the claim is that a group of former volunteer fire department board members made the decision to dissolve the department in secret meetings, and the County allegedly let it happen. For the past two years, locals have been in a contentious battle over the future of San Diego County's last all-volunteer fire department. Many residents believe the County should take over the department because it has more resources and money.Opponents don't trust the County and think that the department's volunteers can do a better job on their own. This morning, an independent regulatory agency conducted a final vote in favor of dissolving the department. A hearing on this new lawsuit is scheduled for Wednesday morning. 1041

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego biotech is developing a device that could change how people get routine blood tests.Truvian, which moved into its new UTC area headquarters Thursday, is developing a product that could deliver 40 routine results within 20 minutes, requiring just five drops of blood. The company's chief executive says it should cost less than . "We're going to give you those results in 20 minutes, and it will cost you or your insurance a fraction of what you're paying today," said Jeff Hawkins, CEO of Truvian. Hawkins said the idea is to get the product into retail clinics like at CVS, Walgreen's and Walmart, plus private and corporate clinics. Kim Kamdar, a co-founder, said it will allow patients to get their clinical chemistry, immunoassays and hematology, which cover the range of routine blood work. Truvian's announcement comes about a year after Theranos shut down in disgrace. Theranos promised hundreds of results from a single drop of blood, but investigations uncovered fraudulent claims. Now, its founder Elizabeth Holmes and former president Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani face criminal charges. Hawkins said Truvian is different because it knows its limits.
