"Let the Bullets Fly" has raked in over 400 million yuan (59.7 million U.S. dollars) in box office since its debut on Dec. 16, while "If You are the One II" has made 200 million yuan within five days since its release.The crackdown was ordered by the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications and the General Administration of Press and Publication "in order to protect and boost the development of China's film industry," a statement from the office said Friday.The statement said the crackdown is part of a half-year national campaign against infringement of intellectual property rights (IPR), which is underway.The two departments asked local market watchdogs to enhance market inspections to weed out illegal workshops producing pirated video products.

WUHAN, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday that Premier Wen Jiabao's imminent visit to Russia and the 15th regular meeting between the Chinese and Russian prime ministers would further promote the bilateral relationship.Yang made the remarks while meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at the 10th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia and India in central China's Wuhan city.However, Yang did not give a specific date for the prime ministers' meeting in Russia.During his meeting with Lavrov, Yang praised progress of the development of China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination this year. BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Friday ordered local governments to begin a campaign to inspect projects under construction to eliminate safety risks in the wake of recent fire accidents.Local authorities should work on "effective prevention of accidents" and improve safety, especially in winter when fire and gas poisoning accidents tend to be more frequent, the ministry said in a statement on its website.Special monitoring should be undertaken of reconstruction work and of projects involving the expansion of existing buildings, it said, urging a "serious" crackdown on illegal practices during building operations, according to the statement.The notice followed the call from the State Council on Wednesday demanding tougher fire prevention measures, after a blaze Monday gutted a high-rise apartment building in Shanghai, killing at least 58 people, and another fire engulfed a 99-year-old building at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Nov. 13.

BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for China's non-manufacturing sector was back to growth in December last year after declining for two months, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Monday.The December PMI for non-manufacturing sector rises to 56.5 percent, 3.3 percentage points higher than a month earlier, the CFLP said in a statement on its website.The figure declined month on month in October and November last year to a nine-month low of 53.2 percent in November.The non-manufacturing PMI is a package of indices that measure the non-manufacturing sector's performance.A reading above 50 percent indicates economic expansion while one below 50 percent indicates economic contraction. It was the eighth straight month the reading was above 50 percent.The monthly rise had reflected a steady growth in China's non-manufacturing sector, with new orders index 2.2 percentage points higher month on month to 52.3 percent and new export orders jumped 3.3 percentage points to 50.6 percent, said the CFLP.According to the CFLP, the New Year holiday, as well as the coming Lunar New Year holiday, or Spring Festival, which falls on early February this year, has led to a rebound in the consumer service sector, especially in the retailing and the catering businesses.The rapid growth in the information service industry has also contributed to the rise, which had largely driven up the producer service sector, of which the business activity index was up 4.3 percentage points to 59.7 percent, it said.The CFLP also pointed out that the intermediate input price index for December was down 0.7 percentage points from the November level to 65.9 percent, indicating that inflation condition has not worsened in the past month, but it suggested the government closely monitor its future trend.Noticeably, the new order index for the real estate industry remained below 50 percent by falling 2.3 percentage points to 45 percent, which was "a move toward the government's macro-control target", said the statement.

BEIJING, Nov. 16 ( Xinhua) -- The General Office of China's State Council, or the Cabinet, on Tuesday issued a circular, ordering more strict fire control measures to "resolutely" prevent serious fire accidents.Monday's blaze in an apartment building in Shanghai's downtown area left 53 people dead and more than 70 injured, one of the deadliest recorded fire disasters in the city.The circular ordered extensive campaigns to inspect and remove fire hazards and to educate the public about fire control, as well as strict implementation of the accountability system for fire accidents.Besides those directly responsible for serious fire accidents, local government chiefs would also be held accountable, it said.Police have detained eight people in connection with the deadly blaze.Further, an initial investigation has blamed the disaster on unlicensed welders, some of whom are among the detained.
