OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Loved ones are mourning the COVID-related death of an Oceanside grandfather who worked security on the Sprinter train.Matthys Kemp, 67, first became sick around mid-September."A cough and fever. Just thought he was coming down with a bug," said daughter Rinali HillNot long after, his symptoms got worse. Hill says on September 20th, he ended up in the ER."They admitted him. He had double pneumonia and COVID," said Hill.After two weeks on oxygen, Kemp was placed on a ventilator and sedated. He developed a blood clot in his leg and kidney issues.On November 1, Kemp, a father of two and grandfather of three, passed away."Just glad he's not in pain anymore," said a tearful Hill.Hill says her father was kind, generous and well-liked."He definitely had a huge smile and huge heart for everybody," said Hill.Hill says Kemp worked with the North County Transit District for the past decade, including the last five years for the contractor that provides security on the Sprinter train."He loved his job. Felt like he had a purpose, showing up every day in his vest. Felt like it was his Superman cape. Took pride in getting people to their destinations," said Hill.Hill isn't sure where her father contracted the virus, but says he was diligent about wearing a mask at work.His long-held wish, known to his family for years, was to have his body donated to science. Hill says when she reached out to local research facilities, they say it wouldn't be possible because of his COVID-19 diagnosis."That’s what he wanted and unfortunately we couldn’t do that for him," said Hill.Hill is now sharing her father's story, urging others to take precautions."Please wear a mask ... This virus can leave behind a family that can’t say goodbye in person, couldn't get hold their hand. Norwegian Cruise Lines announced they are extending their suspension of all cruises until at least March 2021, as coronavirus cases remain high in the US and around the world.In a statement released Wednesday, Norwegian said all trips departing between January 1 and February 28 as well as “select voyages in March 2021” will be suspended. The suspension also applies to Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises through March 31, 2021.“Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. … today announces an extension of its previously announced suspension of global cruise voyages as the Company continues to work through its return to service plan to meet the requirements of the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” the statement reads.Norwegian now has the longest suspension of major cruise operators. Carnival and Royal Caribbean announced last month they would suspend voyages through January 2021. Some Carnival voyages are canceled through February.The CDC lifted a no-sail order at the end of October, however a few days later, the Cruise Lines International Association, which represents about 95 percent of cruise operators, issued a statement that they would voluntarily suspend voyages through the end of the year, at least.Then a few days before Thanksgiving, the CDC warned Americans about traveling on cruises and the potential for contracting COVID-19. This followed a positive COVID-19 case on a Bahamas-based cruise voyage in early November.When the CDC lifted their order they announced a tiered approach, which would include cruises with a select group of volunteers to test COVID-19 safety protocols before passengers would be allowed. Olive Garden is bringing back its unlimited "Pasta Pass" promotion, which allows passholders eight weeks of unlimited pasta bowls.The restaurant plans to sell 22,000 passes at 0 each. The passes will go on sale Thursday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. ET and will be on sale for 30 minutes.They can be bought at PastaPass.com.Last year, the 21,000 passes that were up for grabs sold out in seconds.New this year is the "Pasta Passport to Italy," which includes an all-expenses paid trip for two to Italy.The 50 available "passports" will go on sale at the same time as the traditional passes. One volunteer Santa Claus might end up on the "naughty list" this Christmas as a 66-year-old New Jersey man who dresses up as Santa for the holidays was accused of possessing a crack pipe on Monday, WABC-TV reported. Charles Smith, of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, was charged with two counts of drug paraphernalia, WABC reported. South Hackensack Police Department Captain Robert Kaiser told WABC that Smith was found with a crack pipe and empty bags of crack and heroin.Smith was pulled over by law enforcement on Monday, and was arrested after officers spotted the crack pipe in plain view. Police added that Smith's Santa costume was also in plain view. WABC reported that Smith works as a volunteer for the Toys for Tots program.  785
