Two new fissures opened on Hawaii's Big Island, spewing lava and fueling fears of violent explosions more than a week after the Kilauea volcano erupted.Nearly 2,000 people have been evacuated since the Kilauea volcano erupted May 3, sending lava flowing into communities and threatening a nearby geothermal plant.The 17th fissure, a crack on the ground through which lava pours out, was reported Saturday night, the US Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said."Lava from this latest outbreak is actively spattering," it said.The volcanic vents, or fissures, have released slow-moving lava and toxic gas into island communities, gobbling up dozens of homes and vehicles.Another fissure, the 16th one, was reported earlier Saturday and "produced a lava flow that traveled about 250 yards before stalling," officials said.That vent was about a mile east of the Puna Geothermal Venture plant, where officials removed 60,000 gallons of flammable liquids due to safety concerns.In addition to the new fissures, USGS officials said an explosive eruption is possible at Halemaumau crater at the top of the Kilauea volcano. The fire is 60 percent contained. The eastbound lanes on State Route 78 closed at Bandy Canyon Road due to the fire, but are expected to reopen by 10 p.m. The 78 will be down to one lane on Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Highland Valley Road was also closed between Bandy Canyon and Archie Moore Road due to a big rig that was stuck on the road.  803

(KGTV) – Detectives in Los Angeles are searching for more victims after they say a man exposed himself to a woman and juveniles at Universal Studios.Hershel Korngut, 34, was arrested after detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office say he exposed himself to a woman on the Universal CityWalk on January 1.Korngut was arrested on a misdemeanor charge, cited and released. Throughout their investigation, detectives found several other juvenile victims and, after searching Korngut’s home, found evidence of child pornography.Authorities say additional charges, including possession of child pornography, lewd and lascivious acts upon a child and sexual battery will be brought before a judge at Korngut’s upcoming court appearance.Detectives added that Korngut was employed at a hearing care facility and mentored at a youth organization in Los Angeles.Detectives are asking that any additional victims come forward by calling the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office at 818-622-9600 or providing an anonymous tip at 800-222-8477. 1072
