As hundreds of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School prepare to board buses to lobby lawmakers to demand gun control, a measure was struck down on Tuesday by the Republican-held Florida House that would ban assault weapons. The motion was denied by a whopping 71-36 tally. Tuesday's vote came six days after a confessed gunman killed 17 lives at the Parkland, Florida high school. Many of the 3,000 students of the high school have since been vocal in their opposition to status quo gun laws, with the hope of increasing restrictions to posses firearms. The accused gunman, Nikolas Cruz, used an AR-15 type weapon during his massacre, which only lasted several minutes before he tried to blend in with students escaping the school. According to the Associated Press, the bill will likely no longer be considered during this session of the legislature.  898

(AP) — Walt Disney Co. has put a hold on construction plans for a luxury hotel in the Disneyland Resort's shopping district, citing a feud with Anaheim officials over tax subsidies.The Los Angeles Times reports a letter dated Wednesday from the chief counsel for Disneyland Resorts, David Ontko, to Anaheim City Attorney Robert Fabela says the company has no other choice than to put the construction on hold indefinitely as it "reevaluates the economic viability of future hotel development in Anaheim."The dispute centers on a 7-million tax break Anaheim City Council approved in 2016 for a 700-room hotel.Anaheim Chamber of Commerce President Todd Ament calls Disneyland's decision to halt development of the hotel a "devastating blow to Anaheim and a direct result of the city's increasingly hostile actions towards our local economy." 876

As a new work week begins, many are wondering if Atlanta is back to full speed following a cyberattack on the city's computer systems last week.It all depends on the department. Some departments were not affected at all by the cyberattack, while employees in others are still not able to turn on their computers.The fire and police departments were not affected at all by the ransomware attack. The same goes for the public works department, housing authority and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, although the airport has suspended its Wi-fi services, just in case.But other departments have been forced to conduct businesses the old-fashioned way, by using pen and paper.For example, if you have an issue with trash pickup, traffic signals and potholes, you'll have to resolve it over the phone. Also, the city jail is having to process inmates manually.Business owner Marcus Woodard was among the people turned away Monday at Atlanta City Hall. He was looking to renew his business license but the computers are still down."I commuted all this way to get it, and now I've got to come back tomorrow or the day after," said Woodard.On the other hand, Doug Lueder walked out a happy man after his application to have a commercial property subdivided was handled."I had to turn in an application last week just before the cyberattack happened, so I got in and got out," said Lueder.
