BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China has evacuated 1,299 nationals from Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left at least 187 people dead, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.The last chartered flight of China Southern Airlines, with 148 Chinese nationals aboard, landed at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, at 1:30 a.m. (Beijing time) Thursday from Osh in southern Kyrgyzstan.The return of the ninth chartered flight means the end of the three-day massive evacuation, which started on Tuesday.Chinese nationals walk out of the air bridge after another chartered plane carrying 191 Chinese nationals stranded in the violence-hit Kyrgyz city of Osh lands in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, June 16, 2010."After three days of efforts, the vast majority of Chinese nationals in Osh have been flown home," said Sun Dali, deputy director of the Department of Consular Affairs with the Foreign Ministry."But we will continue to pay attention to and contact the Chinese nationals who are still staying in Kyrgyzstan, and offer immediate assistance to them in light of the changes of the local situation," he added.

XINING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged local government to pay more attention to improving people's living conditions during reconstruction in the quake-hit Yushu of northwest China's Qinghai Province.Hui made the remark during his inspection tour on Saturday to the area jolted by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on April 14.At the worst-hit Gyegu town, Hui inspected supply of water, food and fuel, local market, as well as health care services for quake survivors. SHENYANG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Some 253,500 residents have been safely evacuated in northeast China's Liaoning Province after torrential rains caused waters to rise to the highest level in more than a decade along a major river bordering China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), local officials said Sunday.The hundreds of thousands of residents, mostly in Dandong City, were relocated in less than 24 hours from late Saturday to Sunday, provincial flood control authorities said. Among those rescued was a 23-year-old woman who gave birth to a healthy baby just hours after she was air-lifted out of the flood zone.No new casualties were reported on Sunday. Previously, authorities said four people were killed and one remains missing following floods in Dandong, a border city facing Sin'uiju City in the DPRK.Heavy rainfalls that began Thursday have swelled the Yalu River, which marks the border of China and the DPRK. On Saturday night, the water level at one monitoring station in Dandong rose to 2.35 meters above the warning line, the highest in a decade and the second highest since records began being kept in 1934.However, water levels began to dip late Sunday as rains stopped, though provincial authorities warned that the danger has not yet passed.Workers are racing to build sand bag flood barriers along part of the river where the water has overflowed. Over two thousand soldiers and crews have been mobilized to rescue stranded residents. About 70 vehicles, 38 speed boats and six helicopters were used in the rescue operations, local officials said.BABY BORNOn Sunday, a healthy baby weighing 3.9 kilograms was born in the Women and Children's Hospital of Dandong. Hours before, her mother, 23-year-old Liu Li, was stranded at home in rural Kuandian County waiting for mid-wives to come amid heavy flooding.After learning of Liu, Liaoning Governor Chen Zhenggao first ordered helicopters to send experienced doctors to Liu and later had Liu air-lifted to Dandong. Liu was immediately admitted to the hospital as she arrived."I never thought my daughter could be born in this way. If not for the emergency rescue, we both could have died," she told reporters.She was still unable to tell her family the good news as traffic and telecommunication services have not been fully restored. But doctors at the hospital said Liu and her daughter were being well taken care of and most of her hospital fees had been waived.

CHANGCHUN, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Floods have left 63 people dead and 59 missing in northeast China's Jilin Province over the past two months, local authorities said Monday.More than 4 million people have been affected since the flood season began in June and some 700,000 people have been evacuated, the Jilin Provincial Civil Affairs Department said in a statement.Additionally, about 62,000 houses have collapsed and 193,000 others have been damaged, along with 1.16 million hectares of cropland having been inundated, the statement said.Direct economic losses were estimated at almost 19 billion yuan (2.8 billion U.S. dollars), it added.In the hardest-hit areas, flash floods have cut roads, isolated villages and disrupted communications and water supplies.In the industrial city of Tonghua, torrential rains have damaged water pipelines, leaving 300,000 people without tap water for two days.Residents have largely relied on bottled water over the past 48 hours as authorities ordered 25 fire trucks to deliver water for domestic purposes aside from drinking to residential communities from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. everyday.About 1,700 tons of water had been delivered by truck, officials said.

BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- China Tuesday pledged to continue to promote the development of military relations with Singapore.Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie made the remarks when meeting with Chiang Chie Foo, visiting Permanent Secretary of the Singaporean Defense Ministry.Recent years had witnessed a rapid development of China-Singapore relations, with political mutual trust, a reciprocal and mutually beneficial economic relationship and fruitful cooperation, Liang said.Bilateral military ties had undergone a healthy development, with sound exchanges and cooperation mechanisms, frequent high-level visits and good cooperation in personnel training, joint military training and escort missions, Liang said.China was willing to work with Singapore to continuously boost relations between the two countries and armed forces, so as to play an active role in jointly safeguarding regional security and stability, he said.Chiang said Singapore attached great importance to the development of its relations with China.The two armed forces were expected to maintain exchanges and cooperation and to strengthen understanding and mutual trust, he said.Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and Chiang co-chaired the third China-Singapore defense policy dialogue before the meeting.Both sides exchanged views in-depth on regional security, relations of the two countries and armed forces as well as other issues of common concern and reached consensus on further strengthening military ties.They agreed to continue to enhance China-Singapore military cooperation and promote the development of friendly and cooperative military relations.The two nations held the first defense policy dialogue in January 2008 in China and the second in March 2009 in Singapore.
