SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A field trip to one of San Diego County’s beaches is making waves on social media after underprivileged children were taken to the beach in a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department bus. Pictures posted on social media show the kids being taken to Del Mar Beach in the bus Thursday. One parent told 10News she was upset when she found out how her child was taken to the beach.“It just doesn’t look right. It just puts us in an awkward point of view,” said Kimberly Steele. "I feel like they would not transport children from La Jolla on a bus like that."According to STAR/PAL, the nonprofit organization that put on the field trip, the trips are meant to foster a relationship between the community and law enforcement. The group is made up of civilian and law enforcement personnel including baseball, soccer, and surf programs. “The message has never been ‘you’re gonna be on a bus that’s used for anything negative,’” said Claire Leveau, Executive Director of the organization. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Border Patrol agent was sentenced Wednesday for trying to smuggle drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border while on duty in 2016.Noe Lopez, 37, of Chula Vista, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and cocaine in exchange for cash. He pled guilty to the charges in June 2017.Investigators say the former Border Patrol agent agreed to pick up backpacks containing the drugs from the north side of the border while on duty. Undercover DEA agents used substances resembling drugs in the backpack drops.RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug , weapons chargesIn a conversation with an undercover agent, Lopez discussed the area known as "Goat Canyon" as a preferred location, according to investigators, saying "Honestly, the thing is that there aren’t—there aren’t any cameras. Nothing, nothing, nothing."At times, investigators said Lopez switched shifts with another agent to be in a preferred area for a drop.Lopez would load the backpacks in his Border Patrol vehicle and deliver what he thought were narcotics after work in exchange for thousands of dollars, according to the charges.RELATED: Border Patrol agent found not guilty on murder charges, hung jury on two lesser charges"This is a fitting sentence for a law enforcement agent who, instead of policing drug traffickers, joined them," U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman said in a release. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego leaders returned from their trip to Mexico City on Wednesday night. The three-day trip focused on building stronger border relations. The trip comes a week after President Trump threatened to close the border if congress didn't come up with an immigration deal or if Mexico didn't stop migrants heading north. The delegation included San Diego and Imperial Beach mayors, Kevin Faulconer and Serge Dedina and former mayor Jerry Sanders. Several city council members from various cities also attended meeting with top Mexican officials. A big topic of conversation was the ongoing Tijuana sewage issue. Impeiral Beach Mayor, Dedina, says the conversations were positive and promising. Dedina says plans to fix the issue include reapairing the water plant that's currently spilling the sewage, taking all of the water out of the Tijuana River Valley and putting an earth-fill dam on the Mexican side to stop the sewage from getting to the beaches. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A beloved Poway tradition is facing accusations of animal cruelty and breaking the law.A lawsuit filed this week claims horses were illegally shocked in the 2018 Poway Rodeo to cause them to buck wildly for crowds. Two animal activist groups filed the suit; Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) and Animal Protection and Rescue League (APRL).Investigators with SHARK captured video during the 2018 Poway Rodeo, which they say proves an illegal device was used. The video appears to show someone with the rodeo shocking a horse in the holding chute just before releasing them into the rodeo arena.California law outlaws an electric prod or similar device from being used on any animal once the animal is in the holding chute, unless necessary to protect the participants and spectators of the rodeo.The plaintiffs are seeking a temporary restraining order before September's rodeo in hopes to get a court order preventing these devices from used.The animal groups notified the San Diego Humane Society of the alleged abuse, but humane law officers say they got the complaint too late to do a proper investigation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 28-year-old was stabbed while trying to break up a fight in Pacific Beach early Sunday morning, police say. According to police, the stabbing took place on the 800 block of Garnet Avenue just after midnight. The 28-year-old was walking when he saw a fight break out between a man and a woman. Police say the victim tried to break up the fight when he and the suspect got into a fight. At that point, police say a third person joined the fight when the victim was kneed in the face and stabbed twice in the abdomen. According to police, the victim didn’t know he’d been stabbed until he got home. His injuries were non-life threatening. 666
