SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The woman shot in the face with a bean bag round during a protest outside of La Mesa Police Department last month has been released from the hospital.Leslie Furcron, 59, was released from the hospital Tuesday, after an LMPD officer fired a bean bag round into a crowd of protesters on May 30, hitting Furcron in the forehead.She was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma with a breathing tube.RELATED: La Mesa protestor shot in the forehead by a police bean bag is recovering in the ICULa Mesa woman hospitalized following protests, family saysFurcron was among the thousands of people in front of the police department, where a demonstration against police violence started peacefully later turned to chaos and officers began to deploy tear gas and bean bag rounds.LMPD Chief Walt Vaquez said last week that the incident was under investigation and the officer involved had been identified.Furcron and her attorney, Dante Pride, are set to speak with the media during a press conference on Wednesday at La Mesa City Hall.Pride told 10News that he believes a third party should be investigating the case and the officer who fired the bean bag should face criminal charges if appropriate. "There should never be a point in time where an officer should shoot a metal projectile bean bag from an elevated position down on a crowd. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Trump administration’s latest effort to keep asylum seekers out of America is being met with opposition. Attorney General William Bar directed immigration judges to deny bond hearings for asylum seekers arriving at the border. The ruling does not go into effect for another 3 months and Barr himself noted it will have a "significant impact" on the already overcrowded detention centers. “A person can be detained indefinitely," said immigration attorney Edward Orendain. "This is just another attempt by this administration to make things more difficult for those seeking asylum.” The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged overcrowding many of their detention centers along the border earlier this month and requested the 90-day delay after Barr’s ruling on Tuesday. “It’s only a call to build more detention centers,” said Benjamin Prado with American Friends Service Committee. “Those contracts go to a private prison corporations that make huge amount of profits on the detention of people, off the ‘warehousing’ of individuals.”Barr’s ruling is expected to be challenged in court. 10News has reached to Immigration and Customs Enforcement on how this would affect their centers in San Diego. 1234

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This year, December Nights organizers are opting for a tasty, food-driven event in place of the traditional two-night gathering in Balboa Park."Taste of December Nights" will feature more than 20 food trucks and vendors in Balboa Park, inviting visitors to enjoy a delicious drive-thru event this year. The event will be held from Friday, Dec. 4, through Sunday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.The event is free to attend, but visitors must remain in the vehicles and wear face coverings. Organizers say walk-ups, or people attending on bikes or scooters will not be allowed, as safety protocols amid the pandemic will be enforced.The food truck event will roll into the park's Inspiration Point parking lot, near President's Way and Park Blvd.The event will also feature some giveaways for visitors, including a commemorative Taste of December Nights tote bag filled with some festive items for the first 500 cars each day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This New Year’s Day organ donor heroes will be honored on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float.One of those heroes is a Everardo Martinez, a San Diego father of three whose life was cut short by a fatal aneurysm. After Martinez passed, his wife Adriana worked closely with Lifesharing San Diego to donate his organs.“It’s comforting, it’s comforting to know my husband lives on through those recipients,” said Adriana. “I’m deeply honored my husband was able to transform their lives.”Everardo was able to save three lives with his selfless gift.His wife and children traveled to Irwindale to help decorate the Lifesharing float that will honor Everardo and 43 other organ donors. Adriana also spent eight hours on a floral portrait of her husband that will be featured on the float. “It’s an honor, a true honor to be able to honor my husband’s legacy and memory,” said Adriana.
