CASHION, Okla. — A 65-year-old Oklahoma woman has been charged after body camera video shows her combative confrontation with a police officer when she refused to sign an ticket.Video shows Debra Hamil was not willing to pay up when a Cashion police officer issued the ticket for a broken tail light.When the officer asked her to step out of her vehicle, she refused, told him he was "full of sh**," driving off and leading the officer on a brief pursuit.Hamil eventually pulled over in a parking lot, and the officer approached her vehicle with his gun pulled. The officer then pulled Hamil out of her truck, and she was caught on camera kicking him in the groin and resisting arrest.The officer deployed his Taser after she refused to put her hands behind her back, finally placing her under arrest."Do you realize you just got yourself in a whole lot more trouble?" the officer says."Yeah, I tried to kick you because I'm a country girl," Hamil said.Hamil refused medical attention, but officials said they brought her to the hospital for an assessment.The Kingfisher County District Attorney's office has accepted charges against Hamil for one felony assault on a police officer and one misdemeanor for resisting arrest. 1240

During an emotional Staples Center memorial service for NBA legend Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka on Monday detailed text messages between him and Bryant, which may have been the last ever sent by Bryant. Pelinka said that Bryant had texted him while on board the doomed helicopter, which crashed into a Southern California hillside, killing Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others. The nine were en route to a basketball tournament where Bryant would coach his daughter Gianna’s team. Pelinka said he was at his church’s Sunday service at the time, where he normally does not check his phone. But Pelinka said he had the urge to check his phone as “a gentle, other worldly nudge compelled” him to open the message. Pelinka said that Bryant asked him if he knew of a certain baseball agent in Southern California. “Kobe texted back his desire to help a friend of his secure a baseball agency internship for one of his young daughters,” Pelinka said. “Kobe vouched for the girl’s character, intellect and work ethic; he clearly wanted to champion a bright future for her.” Pelinka responded back to Bryant to say he would put in a plan in place to get that done. “A handful of minutes later, Kobe and Gianna and seven other beautiful souls ascended into heaven,” he said. “Kobe had been texting me from the helicopter.“The girl in that text chain he wanted to help so badly was Lexi Altobelli, the surviving daughter of coach John Altobelli, who was on the helicopter. Duke superstar freshman Zion Williamson surprised no one on Monday by announcing that he will forego college for this summer's NBA Draft. With his announcement, Williamson is expected to be drafted first in this year's draft, no matter which team gets the No. 1 selection. The NBA Draft Lottery will be held next month, and with it, the opportunity to land the most coveted prospect since LeBron James. The New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavs and Phoenix Suns equally have the best chance of landing Williamson at 14 percent. All other teams that did not make this year's NBA Playoffs are also in the lottery for the No. 1 selection. Williamson, who helped lead Duke to a spot in this year's Elite Eight, average 23 points and nine rebounds a game. Unlike Williamson, James was able to bypass college and go directly to the NBA after high school. Since then the NBA has implemented a rule that essentially bars players from coming straight out of high school. While his freshman year was a success, Williamson's shoes became a national story -- one that might have cost Nike millions of dollars. Despite widespread bipartisan support, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is putting the brakes on the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, which previously passed by a 410-4 margin by the House. The bill would be the first to make lynching a federal crime by broadening the coverage of the current laws against lynching and would specify the act of lynching as a hate crime. People who violate the bill’s provisions could be subject to criminal fines, so the federal government might collect additional fines under the legislation. Criminal fines are recorded as revenues, deposited in the Crime Victims Fund, and later spent without further appropriation action.Paul said that as proposed, he opposes the bill. He offered an amendment to the bill, claiming the current legislation is too broad.“Lynching is a tool of terror that claimed the lives of nearly 5,000 Americans between 1881 and 1968,” Paul said. “But this bill would cheapen the meaning of lynching by defining it so broadly as to include a minor bruise or abrasion. Our nation's history of racial terrorism demands more seriousness from us than that.”The bill is named after Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African American who was brutally murdered in 1955. An all-white jury found Roy Bryant and JW Milam not guilty following Till's death. Not facing the possibility of prosecution, the duo admitted to killing Till in a lynching following acquittal. Paul invoked Till’s name as he air his criticism of the legislation. “It would be a disgrace for the congress of the united states to declare that a bruise is lynching, that an abrasion is lynching, that any injury to the body, no matter how temporary, is on par with the atrocities done to people like Emmett Till, Raymond Gunn and Sam Hose, who were killed for no reason but because they were black,” Paul said. “To do that, would demean their history and cheapen limping in our country.”Paul’s move, which slowed swift passage of the legislation, angered Senate Democrats. The legislation passed through the House on Feb. 26.Without unanumous passage, it is unclear how long it will take for the bill to make its way to President Donald Trump's desk.“Senator Paul is now trying to weaken a bill that was already passed,” Sen.
