Sam’s Club is going to hire 2,000 seasonal workers to aid with the upcoming holiday season.In a press release, the retail company said they are looking for extra help as they gear up for more days of deals and an influx in shoppers.“We take our cues directly from our members, and they’re telling us they’re ready for and excited about holiday shopping this year,” said Megan Crozier, Chief Merchandising Officer, Sam’s Club in the news release. “Our merchants are making this holiday extra special for our members across categories – from food and holiday décor to one-of-a-kind gifts – with more high-quality items at amazing members-only values, and special experiences they can’t find anywhere else.”The positions will be in their fulfillment and distribution centers.Sam’s Club said the positions would be full-time. SAN DIEGO — A new political ad is pushing a proposition it says will eliminate a "tax penalty" on homeowners whose homes burn down in wildfires.That measure, Proposition 19, would allow homeowners who lose their homes in a wildfire or natural disaster to transfer their property tax base to a replacement home anywhere in the state. That's important because in California, homeowners pay their property tax based on the value of a home when they buy it, under 1978's Prop 13. It only increases incrementally after. Therefore, buying a new home could cause a family's property tax bill to skyrocket. A new ad released by the Yes on 19 campaign, funded largely by the California Association of Realtors and California Firefighters Association, emphasizes that point. "It limits property taxes on wildfire victims, so families can move to a replacement home without a tax penalty," the ad says. Truth be Told, the benefit currently exists in California, but only in the county where a governor-declared disaster happened, or counties that accept transfers, which San Diego County only began doing two years ago. Prop 19 opens it to the whole state. Proposition 19 does more than just allow the transfer for wildfire victims. It also allows up to three property tax base transfers for homeowners 55 and older, and those who are severely disabled. They can use it for any property, anywhere in the state. Another change, however, is that inherited properties are reassessed unless the recipient uses it as his or her primary home. Currently, heirs benefit because the property tax base transfers with the property, making for a big tax break. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A former San Diego County sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a fleeing detainee outside the downtown San Diego jail pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a second-degree murder charge.Aaron Russell, 23, is charged in the May 1 death of 36-year-old Nicholas Bils, who was unarmed and running away from officers when he was shot just outside the San Diego Central Jail, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.The former deputy, who had been with the department for 18 months at the time of the shooting, surrendered to authorities on Monday, according to his attorney, Richard Pinckard.Russell, who resigned from the sheriff's department shortly after the shooting, faces 15 years to life in state prison if convicted of second-degree murder, and up to an additional 10 years if convicted of a firearm allegation.RELATED: Suspect who escaped park rangers' vehicle shot, killed by deputyBils had been arrested by rangers with the California Department of Parks and Recreation for allegedly threatening a ranger with a golf club at Old Town San Diego State Park. Iredale said the fatal shot went through Bils' back, lung and heart.Among the officers present during the shooting, Russell was the only one who discharged his weapon, the prosecutor said. In fact, Marquardt said, "No other officer on scene so much as unholstered a firearm to stop Bils from running."The Bils family's attorney, Eugene Iredale, said Bils was at the park that day hitting golf balls for his dog to chase. He said "it appears that when the park rangers approached him," Bills "brandished his golf club and ran away."Iredale alleged that Russell opened fire "with what appears to be calmness and relaxation" as he "began to take target practice on a man who was fleeing."Exactly what prompted the deputy to open fire remains unclear. "These decisions must be made solely in the interest of justice and not based on favoritism nor public opinion. Every person must be accountable under the law."The victim's mother, Kathleen Bils made a statement following Russell's arraignment, in which she said her son "should be alive and be here with us. "If you're selling and buying at the same time, trying to get all that done and project managing that even with the help of a great agent is hard."Zillow plans to launch the program in San Diego in early 2020. Homeowners would answer a few questions about their property online, getting an initial offer. If interested, they can arrange for an in-home inspection. A day or two after that, they'll get a formal cash offer they can consider. But that certainty comes at a price. Zillow makes its offer based on a variety of factors, including how long they believe they will have to hold the property and what they can sell it for. The company also deducts the costs of any repairs it deems necessary, with no room for negotiation. Typically, their offer comes with a 7 percent fee, which is 1 to 2 percent more than the average commission.Mark Goldman, a loan officer for C-2 Financial, said Zillow's offer likely comes with a cost. "For somebody who needs to do a fast transaction, it might be a suitable option, but you're not going to get top dollar for your house if you're going to do that," he said.
