Americans are on edge as protests intensify across the country. With some peaceful demonstrations turning violent, people are now boarding up their properties. Some are looking to rebuild physically while others are aiming to heal religiously. “As a black man of faith, I can feel God at work; I can see God at work,” said Ken Brown, senior pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver. Recently, Brown went from preaching on the pulpit to carrying his message of faith to the front lines of protests. “The needle is moving that God’s at work” he said. “That people get that this is a spiritual matter.” Across the country, Trinity members are doing the same – expressing their beliefs in a higher power. Congregations from Florida and Tennessee shared videos of recent protests. Members were too emotional to talk on camera and instead texted how faith can help overcome fear. In Minneapolis, where George Floyd died after a police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, there’s a city-wide effort to unite pastors of different churches. “We are not defined by the color of our skin but by the god that we serve,” said Kory Kleinsasser, senior pastor of Waite Park Wesleyan Church in Minneapolis. Kleinsasser says faith can inspire peace during these protests while Brown went on to address the rough relationship between religion and racism. “For too many centuries, the church has been a part of the problem,” he said. To help be part of the solution, Brown is now connecting with historically black churches saying spirituality can help rebuild relationships during these troubled times.“We are racially divided, we are racially segregated in America,” brown said. “We can do better.” 1717

YOKOHAMA, Japan. – The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced Tuesday that travel restrictions have been placed on all remaining passengers and crew of the Diamond Princess, the cruise ship quarantined off the coast of Japan because of a COVID-19 outbreak on board. Under the restrictions, the more than 100 United States citizens still on board the ship or in Japanese hospitals will be prevented from returning to the U.S. for at least 14 days after leaving the Diamond Princess. The restrictions apply to the ship’s other passengers and crew as well. “After disembarkation from the Diamond Princess, these passengers and crew will be required to wait 14 days without having symptoms or a positive coronavirus test result before they are permitted to board flights to the United States,” said the CDC in a press release. If an individual from the cruise arrives in the U.S. before the 14-day period ends, the CDC says they will still be subject to a mandatory quarantine until they have completed the 14-day period with no symptoms or positive coronavirus test results.The CDC says there may be additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 among the remaining passengers on board the Diamond Princess, because of their high-risk exposure.The CDC says these travel restrictions have been put in place to protect the health of the American people. “We continue to believe that the risk of exposure to COVID-19 to the general public in the United States is currently low,” wrote the CDC. “The U.S. Government is taking these measures to protect the Diamond Princess passengers and crew, their loved ones, the traveling public, and communities within the United States.”Sunday night, two charter flights carrying Diamond Princess passengers landed at military bases in California and Texas, starting the clock on another 14-day quarantine period to ensure passengers don’t have the new virus. A total of 14 of those passengers were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. 1980

 It just got a bit harder to find the latest issue of Cosmopolitan at Walmart.The retail company said Tuesday that it's removing the women's magazine from checkout lines. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation said Walmart made the decision following conversations with the anti-pornography organization."As with all products in our store, we continue to evaluate our assortment and make changes. Walmart will continue to offer Cosmopolitan to customers that wish to purchase the magazine, but it will no longer be located in the checkout aisles," Walmart said in a statement.While the move "was primarily a business decision, the concerns raised were heard," the company added.Cosmopolitan magazine, which is published by Hearst, is known for its sex tips and advice for young women. It covers "men and love, work and money, fashion and beauty, health, self-improvement and entertainment," and reaches millions of readers each month, according to Hearst's website.Hearst did not immediately reply to a request for comment.In a statement, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation lauded the "significant policy change.""Walmart's removal of Cosmo from checkout lines is an incremental but significant step toward creating a culture where women and girls are valued as whole persons, rather than as sexual objects," Executive Director Dawn Hawkins said.The group takes issue with the magazine, and believes customers shouldn't have to see it while checking out at stores, because it "places women's value primarily on their ability to sexually satisfy a man and therefore plays into the same culture where men view and treat women as inanimate sex objects," Hawkins said.The National Center on Sexual Exploitation, which changed its name from Morality In Media in 2015, works to highlight the negative effects of pornography, which it calls a "public health crisis." 1899
