China has made marked progress in promoting the development of eco-cities by making major urban areas greener and more efficient in energy consumption, but the country still needs to ratchet up its efforts in making the development more balanced, according to a report.
China announced the "Made in China 2025" blueprint in 2015 as a way to move manufacturing up in the value chain, promoting development in 10 key sectors such as medical devices and robotics. Authorities have promised "multi-pronged financial support" to implement the strategy.

China has about 18,000 kilometers of coastline. More than half of the country's exploited coastlines are used by the fishery industry while transportation and urban infrastructure occupy about 20 percent of the coastline, said Guan Daoming, director of the China Marine Environmental Monitoring Center.
China has been making greater efforts to increase its imports to meet the growing needs of the Chinese people and for high-quality economic growth. The inaugural 2018 China International Import Expo to be unveiled in Shanghai in November is a major move in that regard.
China has invested heavily in commercial passenger jet manufacturing. The ARJ21, its first regional aircraft, began commercial operations in June 2016.
