Those looking to get out of their homes Labor Day weekend appear to be favoring remote locations, according to travel site Airbnb.Of homes and living spaces booked on the site for Labor Day Weekend, 30 percent are in remote and out-of-the-way places, Airbnb said in a recent report. This is almost double the percentage of remote bookings over the holiday weekend in 2019.The most popular getaway locations in the US over the holiday weekend are ones with water access or traditional fall foliage; including Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Big Bear Lake, California, Wilmington, North Carolina, Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Orange Beach, Alabama. After a slow summer travel season, with road trips and flights down year-over-year, AAA is reporting many will be heading out of town over the Labor Day Weekend. Although the number of travelers will be down compared to previous years, low gas prices and last-minute trips will put many of them on the roads.Once Labor Day Weekend is over, Airbnb is reporting guests are looking to stay longer. Many are looking for months-long stays into the fall, as work and schools remain closed with the coronavirus pandemic."There's this really new trend where traveling and living are starting to blur together," the company's CEO, Brian Chesky, told CNN Business' Richard Quest. "People are booking for weeks at a time or even months at a time."Airbnb reports the number of reviews that mention “remote working” or “work remotely” since March has nearly tripled from the first half of 2019. 1539

Thomson International issued a voluntary recall Saturday for thousands of pounds of onions due to possible salmonella contamination. The recall includes red, yellow, white and sweet yellow varieties. The recall came a day after the CDC issued a food safety alert for onions produced by the company after nearly 400 people from 34 states had been sickened with salmonella. Fifty-nine of those who were sickened were hospitalized.According to the CDC's food alert, red onions are most likely the cause of the outbreak, but because of the way the onions are grown and harvested, other types may have been contaminated.According to the FDA, the onions were sold in mesh sacks as small as two pounds and in cartons as large as 50 pounds. They were shipped to grocery stores in all 50 states and Canada on May 1, and were sold under a variety of brand names. The CDC recommends throwing away all onions from Thomson International or its associated brands. If it's unclear who grew the onions, the CDC also recommends throwing them away. The agency also recommends cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces that may have come into contact with the onions, including countertops, refrigerator drawers, knives and cutting boards.Restaurant goers should also ask where establishments got their onions, and not order any meals with onions if it's unclear where they were produced.Salmonella usually presents with fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. People older than 65 and younger than 5 are more likely to suffer severe illness. The onions were sold under the following brand names: Thomson Premium, TLC Thomson International, Tender Loving Care, El Competitor, Hartley’s Best, Onions 52, Majestic, Imperial Fresh, Kroger, Utah Onions and Food Lion. 1778

TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) - According to a Tijuana newspaper, a power outage over the course of last weekend at the Tijuana General Hospital led to the deaths of five patients who were on ventilators. Officials, though, deny it.On Wednesday, ABC10 News spoke media partner Televisa's anchor Estephania Báez about the report from newspaper Zeta. “What they got was interviews with doctors but they remained [anonymous]," said Báez.She said that state authorities and the hospital admitted there were five deaths but denied that they were caused by the outage and claimed that a backup generator kicked in but only at low voltage.Televisa is reporting that copper wire thieves are suspected of causing the loss of power. “The thieves that [steal] the copper from homes decided to do it to the General Hospital and I can’t even think about why they did this with knowing that patients are connected to ventilators,” added Báez.Tijuana's General Hospital has been hit hard since the start of the pandemic. There have been reports of a lack of beds and equipment. More recently, Báez said, there have been problems related to accessing cancer care. “They even had lots of families that have children with cancer protesting outside the hospital because they couldn't even get their treatment done,” she added. In part of a statement to ABC10 News, the hospital wrote that it categorically denies that the outage resulted in the death of any of its patients.ABC10 News reached out to the Joint Commission which oversees safety standards for hospitals in the United States to ask about power outage protocols. We were sent the following."The Joint Commission Emergency Management Standard EM.02.02.09 EP 5 requires that hospitals identify an alternative means for providing "fuel required for building operations, generators, and essential transport services that the hospital would typically provide." The facility should assess how it would be affected if outside emergency support could not be obtained for 96 hours. This does not mean that they need to have 96 hours’ worth of fuel on site. The plan could include memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with suppliers to replenish fuel as needed during the emergency period. Additionally, the plan could be to operate without normal branch of power to reduce fuel consumption, to extend run-time of the available fuel. If the generator is used as the backup power source for the life safety branch of the electrical system, the facility should have enough fuel to run the generator for a least 1-1/2 hours for as long as the building is occupied." 2592
