SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – After an abrupt cancellation, a firefighting camp aimed at empowering young women has been rescheduled, according to the San Diego Mayor’s office. In a statement to 10News, Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s spokesperson Greg Block wrote:“This camp is about having fun and introducing young people to the possibilities of a rewarding career in firefighting. Families have been looking forward to this event for weeks, and Mayor Faulconer is not going to allow the threat of a lawsuit stop it from happening. The Mayor has directed staff to reschedule the camp as soon as possible and we will share more details soon.” 638

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Serra Mesa family expecting nearly ,000 in stimulus funds in April is still waiting.Mark Perry, who is married with four children, says his family was expecting a big stimulus check. Both he and his wife still have their jobs, but the check will come in handy."Really looking forward to getting the check. I was looking at a check coming fairly quickly, a direct deposit coming of 00," said Perry.Quickly, because Perry had the same bank account for the last 18 years, his IRS refund received via direct deposit every year, including one in April. Taxpayers like Perry should have received their checks during the week of April 13th, a week which came and went for Perry."Halfway through May, I realized something is really up here," said Perry.That's when Perry started logging onto the IRS 'Check My Payment' link, over and over. Hundreds of times."I probably tried a dozen times just last night. The result is always the same," said Perry.That result was this."Got an error message. Either can't verify or don't qualify. None of those things are correct," said Perry.Perry says when he called the number designated by the IRS for 'Economic Impact Payment' questions, he got nowhere."You end up in the same loop, back in the same place where you started from. There's no one you can actually speak to," said Perry.He's written politicians, and every day, he logs onto the IRS site. And he's not alone."I know of two other people in the exact same position I am. I'm frustrated mostly with the IRS website platform, which seems broken to me," said Perry.According to the IRS, 159 million Americans have received their stimulus payments with paper checks still being mailed out in June.An IRS spokesperson told 10news they are asking for patience from the public and continue to working on getting "up to speed" with the online platform. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A shark was seen off the San Clemente Pier Monday morning, prompting lifeguards to close a two-mile stretch of beach.Several witnesses saw the shark about 9 a.m.  It was estimated at nine feet long, lifeguards said. They did not know what type of shark it was.Few people were in the water because of cold temperatures and minimal surf, said officials. No one was hurt.RELATED: San Onofre shark victim in fair condition after surgeriesLifeguards shut down the beaches for a mile north and south of the pier and posted warning signs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A thief with a U-Haul truck and young accomplice made off with a haul at a home in Rancho San Diego.Sue Sobke and her husband returned to their home on Calle Deposito Saturday night and found their patio sliding door shattered. "Just a violation. A lot of fear and panic," said Sobke.Inside, two rooms were ransacked. The jewelry box in her bedroom was emptied of hundreds of pieces. Many of the piece were sentimental, one in particular. Her father, a World War II veteran, bought her mother a gold ring while in China after the war. Both of her parents have passed. "Felt close to her ... means my mom and how much I loved her. How much my dad loved her ... now it's gone," said Sobke.Her mission to get it back could depend on a piece of surveillance video. The video shows a U-Haul truck making a turn near her home. Neighbors spotted it parked in front of her home. "They saw a man in my backyard, in his 40s, fit and wearing a hat," said Sobke.Sitting in the truck was a boy about 12 years old."A neighbor saw the boy in the truck listening to music. He waved at him and drove off," said Sobke.Whether the boy was used as a lookout or diversion, Sobke can only shake her head."It's clever. I'll admit that. No one would suspect a young boy waiting for his father. It's horrible, training him," said Sobke.The training may not be over. Detectives told Sobke that a U-Haul truck has been seen near other break-ins in the area. "For about three weeks, they've been chasing this U-Haul truck," said Sobke.A sheriff's department spokesperson says the burglary has not yet been linked to any other cases. 1631

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A surveillance system caught a man breaking into a College Area Thai Restaurant and stealing hundreds of dollars in cash and tech equipment. 10News met with Chira Svangvitaya, owner of "Sala Thai." She has been serving dishes from her homeland to the San Diego community for almost 30 years. But when she opened the store on Halloween morning, she found her store in shambles. “I saw all the things all over the floor," Svangvitaya said. MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHer surveillance cameras captured the break-in just before 7 a.m.  A man crept in through the back door, ran through the dining area while pulling up his hood, then headed straight to the front counter. He took 0 in cash, five tablets, and a laptop before tiptoeing out the back door. "He was like a pro," she said. “In and out in less than five minutes.”While the stolen money was substantial, the absence of the tablets hurt her most.“I have Uber Eats. Grub Hub, Postmates, Door Dash, Amazon, and Yelp," she said.She said 30 percent of her sales come solely from deliveries, which means she is losing out on a lot of customers. But she said there is a silver lining to this. What the thief may not know, is that the tablets' only function is food delivery. The resale value is unsubstantial. They all come with serial numbers, which she hopes the police and delivery companies use to track them and the thief down. “I just want them [the police] to catch the guy.
