SAN DIEGO (CNS) - High school seniors who are deported before finishing their studies would be eligible for diplomas under a bill introduced today by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher of San Diego.Democrats introduced the bill as Congress remained at an impasse on a deal to protect so-called dreamers from deportation. Dreamers, those brought to the U.S. illegally at a young age and who are covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, have temporary authorization to remain in the country.That permission is set to expire on March 5 unless Congress passes a bill or President Donald Trump reverses his decision to end the program.Related: Dreamers art exhibit activism in Barrio Logan  "These are kids who are being ripped out of school against their will and then sent to countries where they have to restart their lives," Gonzalez Fletcher said. The thief, who appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s, approached a teller at the US Bank satellite office in the Albertsons store in the 2900 block of Alpine Boulevard and presented a demand note about 4 p.m. June 4, according to the FBI. After the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber left the grocery store and fled in a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was killed Saturday when an SUV overturned and crashed into a tree on the Sea World Drive on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol said.The accident happened about 9 a.m. when a white Cadillac Escalade luxury SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed according to one witness, overturned and hit a tree on the right shoulder of the Sea World Drive on-ramp, according to CHP Officer Salvador Castro.Units from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were also on the scene, near the Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Nature Center.The CHP had no immediate information on the identity of the victim.
